Our live classes at Bell Trace are suspended due to coronavirus. We are now holding classes via the free Zoom software. This has caused our schedule to change drastically. Our class sessions are no one hour instead of two, and meet at 7 pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. You must sign up for a course ahead of time in order to get the Zoom invite for each class session.

Tuesday June 16 and 23: The final two sessions of our course on the Maryland Campaign and the Battle of Antietam.

Wednesday June 17: Our discussion of Macbeth continues with Act I scene iii through scene v.

Down the road: When our Antietam course ends, we will present our course on Napoleon's Campaign in Russia, 1812, on Tuesday nights. When our Macbeth course ends, we will present our course on Victorian Britain on Wednesday nights.

Great Discussions!

We have been having wonderful, lively discussions in our recent classes. Our poetry course offered great questions and comments, while our Last Crusades and Antietam courses are also generating a great deal of comment, lots of questions, and some great story telling.

Coming Up at Bloomington Humanities Center

Tuesday, March 10: No Class - we urge you to visit the Monroe County Civil War Roundtable at the History Center at Sixth and Washington. Social time at 6:30pm with speaker and program at 7 pm. Our guest Wiley Lecturer this year is Christian McWhirter from Springfield, Illinois. He will be telling us about his book Battle Hymns: The Power and Popularity of Music in the Civil War and more. Christian was born and raised near Toronto, Canada. Always interested in American history, he moved to the United States where he earned his doctorate. He is Research Historian at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield.

Wednesday March 11: We continue our course on the Maryland Campaign and the Battle of Antietam the story of Union interception of Lee's "Lost Order," and the fighting at South Mountain and Harper's Ferry.

Tuesday, March 3: The Last Crusades course looks at the impact of the Crusades on Europe and at the three Crusading Orders: The Templars, Hospitallers, and Teutonic Knights. Special emphasis on the trials of the Templars and Templar myths.​

Wednesday March 4: We continue our course on the Maryland Campaign and the Battle of Antietam with a look at the opening marches of the campaign, Lee's strategy session on Sept. 8, and the famous "Lost Order."
