The last two weeks were an exceptionally enlightening time at our Back to School Nights! 🏫 Our exceptional teachers not only shared insights into our curriculum but also delved into the world of IB, upcoming units of inquiry, academic expectations for the year, and invaluable ways for parents to support their child's International Baccalaureate Mandarin Immersion journey at home. On 9/12 Saturday, our PYP and Mandarin Coordinator at the San Jose Campus - Lucy, took us on a thrilling adventure at the Joy Culture Foundation in Palo Alto with two Story Telling sessions. ✨ One delved into the enchanting world of the Moon Festival 🌕🥮, while the other got us all geared up for the upcoming school year 📚✏️. We also engaged the little learners with fun activities such as singing our hearts out 🎶 and crafting beautiful lanterns with our own hands 🏮.

What's more, Lucy comes with a wealth of knowledge, boasting over 23 years of academic and administrative experience in various IB and international schools. 🌎✨

🌍✨ Celebrating IB Excellence! Just last Friday, we held our annual Shu Ren School Showcase and the Festival of the Arts at our Shu Ren Berkeley Campus. It was such a breathtaking display of intellectual curiosity, global perspectives, and artistic expression.

From imaginative puppet shows, and thought-provoking projects to insightful research, our students embarked on a captivating journey, exploring connections across subjects and showcasing their collaborative problem-solving skills, critical thinking, intercultural understanding, and transdisciplinary education.

Each classroom highlighted the convergence of multiple subjects and how our students explored complex real-world issues, connecting concepts from multiple disciplines and gaining a deeper understanding of the world around them.

🎓 Congratulations to our Grade 5 students for completing a chapter filled with growth, learning, and unforgettable memories. Last Friday, we celebrated our Grade 5 graduation, marking a huge milestone in their International Baccalaureate (IB) journey.

By completing IB's rigorous curriculum that emphasizes critical thinking, research skills, and a global perspective, our graduates have been nurtured and shaped by our program to become well-rounded individuals who are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to succeed in an interconnected world. 🌎

In addition to our graduation ceremony, we also celebrated with a Shu Ren 'Passing the Torch' tradition ceremony, where our graduating 5th Graders passed their wisdom, experience, and legacy to the rising 4th Graders. It's a symbol of continuity, growth, and the bright future ahead. 🌟

Last Wednesday, Shu Ren International School and our sister school KSS Spanish Immersion Preschool celebrated our first-ever joining Intercultural Festival at the San Jose campus! This is a unique opportunity for us to come together to explore and celebrate different cultures.

One of Shu Ren’s missions is that we are dedicated to cultivating our little learners’ global mindset and open-mindedness by educating and sharing aspects of language and culture. At this Intercultural Festival, we had such a great time appreciating the beauties of all cultures around the world with performances by Shu Ren and KSS students, 720 Martial Arts Academy, and Aztec dance. Our teachers and parents hosted cultural booths representing different countries. We learned and engaged in discussions about various customs and tasted mouth watering dumplings, guacamole, and a lunch program candidate, ChefUs .

Our recent Student Led Conferences (SLCs) were a huge success! This year’s SLCs were truly incredible seeing our students excited, enthusiastic, and proud of their learning journeys. As part of our IB program, SLCs encourage and empower our students to take ownership of their learning, be confident in their own voices, and celebrate their learning progress. 💪

A special congratulations to our San Jose founding families for celebrating their first-ever SLCs! As a long-standing annual tradition from our Berkeley campus, we are excited to see our San Jose Shu Ren students taking pride in their own journey of inquiry-based learning along side their families. 🎉

At Shu Ren International School, one of our most important values is to be global inquirers and always be open-minded to learn from cultures around the world. Our annual Intercultural Festival is a beloved event where we come together as a community to educate, share, exchange, and engage in discussions about different cultures' customs, heritage, and traditions.

We invited our students, UC Berkeley's and for some show-stopping performances while our parents and faculty hosted over eleven different cultural booths such as Japan, Brazil, South Africa, Ireland, Singapore, Tibet, Mexico, and more to represent and share all the beautiful cultures this world has to offer.
