As the OEA PAC board representative for our region, I was able to hear the interviews and I strongly support the REA members of our PAC in their choices here. These races have huge consequences for teachers and students. Please vote, Redmond!
Come on out to support our union family members outside St. Charles Bend, on Neff (by Jackson's Corner Eastside)! Great energy, lots of fun, and feels good to stand in solidarity with OFNHP. 8-6, every day, including the weekend.

Two of our very own members being celebrated for their hard work. Congratulations Jaimee and Jeff. Much deserved!

Our Champions for Students today are two incredible educators from Mountain View High School: Jaimee Brentano and Jeff Papke. These two serve as advisors for the renowned Bend FFA program, which currently includes more than 180 students in high schools throughout the area. It’s just a huge program that supports the growth and development of so many students.

FFA is about agriculture, yes, but it’s also about leadership, about public speaking, about teamwork. Our program here does not do anything in half measures. Go to the classroom where the team meets and you’ll see a room absolutely jam-packed with banners showcasing all of the program’s state titles and wins. It’s incredible to see.

Or take this week - when the program is preparing for its annual banquet. This is no ordinary banquet - from the smoked pork to the metal awards - everything is designed by students.

A true measure of Jeff and Jaimee's dedication and impact comes from their students.

Olivia Rooker, pictured here, is a senior and president of the chapter calls the FFA classroom “like a home to me” and says Mr. Papke and Ms. Brentano are a huge part of that, saying “they are like second parents to me.” “They play a huge role in my life and are the wisest people I know. They are so open and willing to help you to learn and grow.”

Olivia says you two have helped create a warm environment where everyone feels welcome, whether they come from a farming background or are just interested in learning more. She’s far from alone, many students shared they feel welcome, inspired, encouraged and developed confidence in the program.

Jaimee and Jeff, thank you both for your service to the FFA program. Thank you for building such meaningful experiences for students, where they are able to shine and grow. We applaud you both.

Jaimee Brentano and Jeff Papke, You are Champions for Students.

As everyone celebrates our members this week we ask you to be mindful of the language you use. Many people use the word “teacher” in celebration this week. We are hopeful we can begin to shift that language to include all specialities of our membership. This week BEA celebrates EDUCATORS which includes School Counselors, School Psychologists, Teachers on Special Assignment, Classroom Teachers, Student Success Coordinators, Speech Language Pathologist, etc. Our work cannot be done without the collective knowledge of all our members. Opinion: Oregon is experiencing an education workforce crisis

“The simple fact is educators are giving everything they’ve got to try and provide our students with the education they need and deserve this year. But at the end of the day the obstacles we’re being asked to overcome or – more often, to simply ignore– are too great.”

Bend EA was one of the 46 local associations that signed on to this op-ed.
