How about an after Christmas gift for your kids? The gift of Irish dance classes! Whatcom County resident, Kaleigh Jeffers, is the only certified Irish dance teacher in the area and she will be offering new beginner classes in January 2023! This is the Bellingham branch of the Penk-O'Donnell School of Irish Dance based in Vancouver, BC. Kaleigh danced competitively for 18+ years and loves sharing her passion for Irish dance with kids of all ages. We have a great bunch of students already who have been loving it and doing well in competitions. It is excellent fitness and great for coordination and just plain fun! Students will have the opportunity to compete as well as perform in shows locally, especially around St. Patrick's Day. Girls and boys ages 4 & up are welcome to join in on the fun. Classes are $50 per month for 1 hour classes each week. Contact Kaleigh for more information and to reserve your child's spot. New Beginner Irish Dance classes starting in September! Former Whatcom County Homeschooler, Kaleigh Jeffers, TCRG, will be starting a new beginner class with limited spaces available! Kaleigh is the only certified Irish dance teacher in Whatcom County and teaches in partnership with the teacher and director of the Penk-O’Donnell School of Irish Dance, Deirdre O’Donnell. Irish dance is such a unique style of dance that is fun and challenging. It is an art form as well as a sport. Great for coordination and exercise! Students will have the opportunities to perform locally and also compete. Kaleigh danced competitively for over 18 years, qualifying for and competing in the World Championships 11 times! Kaleigh has several homeschool students, but is open to anyone. She is opening up registration for a beginner class in September. Kaleigh is accepting students ages 4 and up. Boys and girls are welcome! Classes are $50 per month, 1 class per week. Reserve a spot for your child before it fills up! Classes are held at Presence Dance Studio on Cornwall in Bellingham. Dear friends, our beloved Mary Wheeler has asked me to post here and let you know she has been diagnosed with ALS, it is progressing quickly & she will be moved to assisted living in Lynden tomorrow. She asked me to tell you how much she APPRECIATES YOU ALL and she MISSES YOU ALL SO MUCH!! We were hoping to get her on the dance floor one last time but it’s not looking good. We are here we are here we are here! Behind the scenes weaving dreams of days filled with community dances on our shared floor with our hug deprived bodies ready to soak up all the love!!

We were able to open the studio to tiny classes for a brief window of time and are now back to being closed until we hear further from Gov Inslee. In the meantime we are here, tending and caring for our collective space, prepping our beautiful floor for a buffing and new coat so she will be ready to receive our beloved community in the (hopefully) not so distant future! We love and miss you SO MUCH!!!!!

What is an online class?

We use Zoom for dancing. It can be accessed from computer, iPad or iPhone. If you have a computer, choose that over the iPad or iPhone. Not only will it sound better, you you can also interact more with other dancers.

When

DATE: Each Sunday (until further notice) at 10:30am

I open the room 10 minutes before we start so that you can come in and get settled. Music will be playing when you come in. Feel free to take a look at who is arriving, and begin stretching & warming yourself up to the music.

What to expect

I will speak for a moment at the beginning of our time, orient you to zoom, have us connect for a bit and then play an hour+ of music for you to dance to with everyone else that is also logged in, and then at the end we will connect and speak together.
It may seem a little strange at first, but it is quite fun to be in touch with each other and feel others joining in community (whether you know them or not!) So needed right now.

Dear Dancers~
I love seeing people who dance

6 feet apart at the coop or on the street

We can't see each others
whole faces
and I feel the sweetness
of a moment of eye contact.

So many times, its worth noting,
I ask people "how are you doing?"
And they inevitably answer "up and down"
or make that motion with their hands
snaking up and down like a rollercoaster

None of us have escaped
the ups and downs
of our world right now

"Inside Out/Outside In"

In this part of the world

we are in that transition

between fall and winter

the rains have come

fires are getting made

tea is a daily life elixir

It is the natural time for "going in"

And yet we have been "in" so much

with COVID

My intent for today's dance

is to honor this going in

and also

honor the community that is still there

It takes trust

sewing threads

of different kinds of connection

some seen and many unseen

Dancing the web of life within us

and receiving it from the "with out"

the human and non-human

world that is seemingly outside us

and yet the more we go in

the possibility to remember something

about the interconnection

to all things

This can bring alive the community of things

Remembering its in our dna

of body and soul

Our Story

COVID-19 in our Community. We are sad to announce we will once again close our beloved studio doors due to Covid-19 as per New Restrictions state wide. Governor Inslee’s announcement Sunday November 15, 2020 has put these restrictions into effect beginning Monday November 16 thru December 14, 2020, due to rising Covid-19 cases here in Whatcom County and across Washington State. Many other states are also implementing restrictions in an effort to once again flatten the curve.
