Prodigy School of CHESS and STEM

Prodigy School of CHESS and STEM is an after-school and weekend enrichment program providing computer, math, reading, and chess education for K-12 students. We started in 2014 as a chess school in Aldie, VA with the name of VA Commonwealth Chess Kids.

Our aim is to help students develop their love for learning, develop a solid understanding of key concepts, and gain practical problem-solving skills to enrich their capacity for independent learning.

After creating their game using Scratch, the two girls are practicing their public speaking skills by presenting the concept of their game to the other students and parents. Great job girls!

### Panamericano de Ajedrez de la Juventud 2019 - Guayaquil, Ecuador (2019 Pan American Youth Chess Championships)

There were 621 players across 11 sections or divisions by age groups (for male and female) from 25 countries and dependent territories represented. This was Brian's first time competing at Pan-Am. Competing in the age category of Under 12 (U12-A), he qualified as the Official Representative (OR) for the United States, earning this honor from his achievements. That said, there were also pressures and stress that came with that distinction as well.

With a starting rank of #18 out of 76 players in the U-12A section, Brian competed against players from the following countries during the course of the tournament: Peru, Ecuador, Panama, Brazil, Colombia, and USA.

Highlights from the tournament: Brian drew against the #1 ranked U-12 player from Panama, won against the #3 ranked U-12 player from Colombia for the final round, and also won against the #3 ranked (and top seed in the section) U-12 player from Canada in the blitz tournament.

Brian played a good tournament overall but missed the chance to place for a medal; he did finished strong with 6/9 pts placing in the top 10 (#10) in the section, improving his standard FIDE rating.

He also participated in the Pan-Am FIDE Blitz tournament as a side event and improved his FIDE blitz rating as well.

This has been a good experience, honor, a learning opportunity, bonding time and further augments Brian's chess goals as he builds up his international experience and exposure.
