Welcome to The Goddard School! Our goal is to be a resource for families and a community where parents can share information and learn from each other.
Laughter is good for the soul…and learning! Fun actually promotes learning; so, laugh, learn and have fun with your children!
Blocks, a cardboard box, an empty egg carton—these simple objects are some of the props that can help your child’s imagination grow! Blocks become a skyscraper, a cardboard box becomes a clubhouse and an egg carton becomes a caterpillar crawling along the forest floor. What are some of your child’s favorite props for imaginative play?

Happy World Kindness Day! Show your child that random acts of kindness don't have to be random. Kindness can also be just good manners. Say 'hello,' hold the door for someone or lend a helping hand.
Thank you to our Parents that were involved in The When I grow Up Event! The children always love visitors! #ThegoddardschoolAshburn1
Fostering respect and manners as well as establishing expectations, limits and consequences is good preparation for any public outing. Take advantage of teachable moments and be sure to reinforce the rules you have set. Acknowledge good behavior with a simple “thank you”. Positive reinforcement instills pride and motivates children to make good behavior a habit. With a little help, your child may develop into a much friendlier companion, guest and citizen at home as well as in public.
Our Private Kindergartners are some smart cookies! Look at the hard work they have put into their State projects. Being back in school can be a stressful time. Make sure to transition your children into a routine this fall. Establish a reasonable bedtime, serve a healthy breakfast and organize the night before each school day. Allow children time to adjust. Remind them that everyone feels a little nervous about the start of school and that it will all become an everyday routine in no time!
Between work and other responsibilities, you’re already away from your children enough. By bringing them into your workout routine, you can spend quality time with them and stay fit https://bit.ly/2YQZG9q

Is your little one often uttering the phrase, "I'm bored?" Prepare for next time by making a boredom box. Sit down with your child and brainstorm a list of different things she likes to do. Then, write each idea on a different slip of paper and put them all in a shoe-box or jar. If your child gets bored, take out the box and ask her to pick out an activity (without peeking).
Read and learn from these seasoned pros.

The academic success of a child largely depends on the quality of education they receive while they’re young. Because kindergarten is a period when a tremendous amount of learning takes place, it’s only imperative that you send your little one to a school that offers the best quality early childhood education.

Although it feels like summer has only just begun, soon enough it will be "back to school" time! Parents can help make the back to school transition much smoother for their child if they prepare in advance. Try to add activities or planned outings to your child’s day. This structure helps prepare them to be on a schedule when they return to the classroom.
Prepare your children for upcoming summer vacations so they can get the most educationally and emotionally out of your adventures. Talk about where you are going and why, how long you will be there, and what they can expect. When you do this right, it feels like a shared family adventure in which everyone’s experience matters and contributes to its success. Tell us about your summer family adventures in the comments!

Routine provides structure, which is often lacking during the summer when children all too quickly become detached from the lessons they learned throughout the school year. Maintaining a schedule during the summer supports an environment that is less of a contrast to the classroom and provides a healthy balance between building skills, play and rest. How do you keep a routine with your children during the summer?

Children, even as young as toddlers, just love to role play. Letting them help out with chores provides valuable life lessons about teamwork, family, responsibility and accountability.
"In the truest sense, freedom cannot be bestowed; it must be achieved." -Franklin D. Roosevelt Wishing your family a safe, happy and healthy Independence Day tomorrow!
Keeping a child's brain challenged throughout the summer is crucial, since the lack of learning that occurs during the summer months can have both short-term and long-term consequences. When a child’s day remains consistent throughout the summer, he remains focused and is less likely to experience learning losses. In addition, this can potentially ease the anxiety that often accompanies transitioning into a new classroom or school come fall.
