Not a single dull moment during quarantine when we have lots of STEAM! #scigenius #scigeniusonline #atleastanhourtogetmyownworkdone #learningisfun
My son attended this camp during the last week of August, 2019. He LOVED it! He loved building the robotics - moon launcher, moon rover and mechanical arms - and programming them. Additionally, he liked the outdoor games that the counselors played with the kids. We will be back next year.
My little one had a great first day of camp! Thx SciGenius staff!! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

When I ask my students what they know about MLK they always say β€œI have a Dream”

We honor you because you made the sacrifice for people of color.

My daughter received a late Christmas present from her auntie, β€œA Kids book about GRATITUDE .”
The timing of this book πŸ“š was perfect! My daughter was having a hard time and we are always saying to her that she should be πŸ™πŸ½grateful!

It’s easier said than done, especially to a 9 year-old. This πŸ“– book is awesome! It talks about if you choose GRATITUDE, it’s your Superpower πŸ¦Έβ€β™€οΈ and in time you will grow more powerful each day.

Nina & I have started to write down 1️⃣ thing we are grateful for each day.

I recommend this book by @ben_kenyon_ Gratitude is definitely a better superpower than strength.

What is your Superpower?

It's a New Year lets invest in our kids' education.

Education can be in many ways, not just school. An Extra curriculum is an excellent way for kids to learn and have fun.

At SciGenius are super big on hands-on activities. Kids do not want to be told what to do. They actually want to take part and participate in the project.

Our programs are a big hit with kids because it's hands-on, and they have a voice in class with our "Guaranteed Small Class."
We also offer free classes. For more details, check our bio.

Lets us know what extra-curriculum your child is doing this semester!

This is what parents have to say about our classes!

We love getting glowing reviews because it is a testament to the effort that we put into supporting our students.

It is our mission to provide a safe, engaging, and exciting space for your child to connect with others, while promoting a love for learning.

Thank you Loruana for allowing us to play this role in your child's life, and for sharing your experience with others!

The great thing about LEGOs is that everyone loves them! They are a great introduction to engineering, and the designs can be as complicated or simple as you want. We've had our fair share of Lego fun this last week!

On that note, I thought I could tell you about a super fun class that we have that uses LEGOs to introduce both engineering concepts AND Geography: Lego Engineering Around the World!

In this class, your kiddos get to explore and learn the different architecture in different cities while creating their own version of the greatest architecture in the world. It's a total blast! 😍

As always, you can find all of the details and sign up at www.scigenius.com

"Learning is not the product of teaching. Learning is the product of the activity of learners." -- John Holt

We believe that a love of learning is the greatest gift that we can give the future generation. That is why every single class that we lead is created to spark curiosity and encourage your child to learn through EXPERIENCE rather than through memorization. 😍

I don't know about you, but at my house we have a TON of boxes leftover from Christmas. I found myself wondering how we could use these without just throwing them away, and realized we are sitting on a motherload of engineering materials! πŸŽ‰

To help spark some inspiration, I found an amazing list of activities from I Heart Arts n Crafts. There are 15 super fun cardboard box activities that will put the Christmas aftermath to good work. (You know, in case your kids are anything like mine and think that the box IS part of the gift. πŸ˜‚)

From our hearts to yours, we wish you a very Merry Christmas!

We are a STEAM educator because we believe that art has the unlimited potential to unlock your child's learning skills. Here are just a few of the benefits of art:

🎨 Stimulates the imagination, which leads to out of the box thinking
🎨 Promotes observation skills
🎨 Enhances critical thinking aka problem-solving skills
🎨 Boosts self-esteem and creates a sense of accomplishment
🎨 Has been proven to reduce stress!

As you can see, incorporating art into your child's learning can truly help support their overall health and well-being. We are proud to offer virtual art classes that are designed to help stimulate learning and incorporate these benefits in a safe and supportive environment.

Your child deserves to love learning, which is why we have developed curriculum that will make both our parents AND students happy. It is our goal to provide high-level education in a way that is engaging and memorable!

One of our crowd-favorites is this fun - and messy - oobleck experiment! It's not a liquid, it's not a solid. It's a whole lot of fun to learn about the science behind it while squishing the substance around in your hands.

SLIME is sooooo over-rated!

Don't waste your time buying expensive DIY slime kits for Christmas this year. Here at SciGenius, we are all about the flubba bubba. Once you try it, you will never go back!

Our students never get tired of this fun experiment. They love to blow bubbles with their friends and compete to see who can blow the biggest bubba. πŸ˜‚

Did you know that STEM vs. STEAM is actually a bit controversial?

With the emergence of the Tech Boom in the late 90's, there was a huge push in the United States to up our technology game. Technological advances in other countries required that the United States keep up in order to stay on top of our National security, spur economic growth, and stay competitive.

Of course, our children were a key component of that. STEM schools started popping up all over the USA, with curriculum that focused solely on science, technology, engineering, and math to ensure that children were learning a solid foundation in these four crucial areas.

Over time, some began to argue that leaving the arts out was a strategical error. After all, art promote thinking out of the box and creativity, which are critical ingredients for innovation. That is when STEAM was born.

But, regardless of which side of the argument you land on, everyone agrees on this: Learning MUST be fun, engaging, and spark curiosity in our children. It's about more than filling their heads with facts. STEM and STEAM are about getting your children interested enough to start asking questions on their own.

SciGenius is a STEAM educator, and we are dedicated to making sure that every class we offer is hands-on and exciting. If you are interested in learning more about what we offer, take a look at our website at www.scigenius.com.

We're tying up the hour of code activities today, and I'm loving this one. It combines coding with another topic from STEAM - art!

We found some incredible pixel art coloring sheets that teach kiddos how to read data tables with some of their favorite themes. (Today, I'm linking to the Minecraft set!) 😍

In short, tables are used in computer science to help organize data into a structure. Tables can be used to store and display data in a format that makes it easy to access the correct position. Think of sheets, or even a chess board, where you can name a specific square by which row and column it lands in. This is a huge time saver, and essential when it comes to computer programming.

These worksheets are like a color-by-number. They are simple, free, and a great way to promote this foundational skill set. Grab them here πŸ‘‰ https://buff.ly/3qR6nam

We love seeing powerful women in STEM 😍

That's why when I came across this game - Unicorn Magic - I knew that I needed to include it in our Hour of Code activities!

This game is great, because the creator made it for her daughter. It comes with a great backstory to help promote interest while playing, and covers every single STEM topic to some degree. Yes!

The basis of this game is that each unicorn must collect two gems, and they are given instructions by pulling cards that tell them where to go. It's a great demonstration of what coding is, what it looks like to deal with bugs, and can be adapted for any age. πŸ€“

Did you know that teaching your kids to code can be an unplugged activity? Crazy, right?!

Today's resource for the Hour of Code is appropriate for kids aged 4+ and takes less than five minutes to set up. Talk about a parent's dream!

This activity is based on one simple principle: giving instructions to a computer to make something happen. It's a foundational coding concept, and kids love the game.

The idea is from a blog called "Teach Your Kids Code". Make sure that you nose around for even more inspiration while on the site! πŸ‘‰ https://buff.ly/2ObWjpJ

Today Unplugged Activity β€˜β€™Binary Code’’

Binary Code represent text and is how computers talk….its a two number system and uses only two numbers 0 & 1.

Get your child to Crack the Code and share your answers in the comment!
To get your FREE printable visit our website or clink link πŸ‘‰ https://buff.ly/36XUnfr

How does Binary Code works in everyday life?
Imagine trying to use words to describe every scene in a film, every note in a song, or every street in your town. Now imagine trying to do it using only the numbers 1 and 0. Every time you use the Internet to watch a movie, listen to music, or check directions, that’s exactly what your device is doing, using the language of binary code.

"On average, jobs requiring coding skills pay $22,000 more per year than jobs that don’t." -- Burning Glass, Job Market Analysis Firm.

WOW! I believe that we are safe to assume that this gap will only increase as technology becomes even more advanced.

Even careers that aren't traditionally linked to computers are shifting into the virtual realm, such as art and writing. Everything has moved online.

Getting your child involved with this skillset young will serve them far into the future. This week, we are sharing resources to make this as simple as possible!

Make sure you are following our account so you don't miss anything!
