In honor of Asian Pacific Heritage Month, we recognize astronaut Kalpana Chawla.
Born in India, Chawla moved to the United States in 1982 and went to become the first woman of Indian origin to go to space. 🚀
Sadly, she passed away on February 1, 2003 as part of the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster. Chawla is remembered as a hero here and in India.

Our first Asian Pacific Heritage Month spotlight is Wataru Misaka. Born in Utah, to parents of Japanese decent, Misaka was a professional basketball player. 🏀
He was selected by the New York Nicks in the 1947 draft and became both the first player of Asian decent and the first non-white player in the BAA (later known as the NBA).
