The Compass School, Ashburn Virginia

We are a Reggio Emilia inspired early childhood school located in Ashburn, Virginia serving children aged 6 weeks through 12 years old.

Through the Reggio Emilia-inspired approach, children are given the tools and support to steer through their own distinct paths of discovery. Our project-based curriculum encourages children to be active participants in the learning process and to develop the skills needed to explore their ideas, interests, and questions in a meaningful way.

Mission: The mission of The Compass School is to provide a safe and nurturing environment that promotes your child's depth of knowledge while inspiring a life-long love of learning.

Pool Day for our CompassQuest summer campers will go on as planned today, except in the case of inclement weather. Cross your fingers for sunshine-y skies!

The Compass School will be closed tomorrow, Thursday July 4th, in celebration of Independence Day. We hope you have a wonderful day with family and friends and will see you again on Friday July 5th, for regular school hours.

Reminder: Today (Wednesday, July 3rd) is Water Play for PRESCHOOL AND PRE-KINDERGARTEN classes!

This week's Summer Theme is "Think Big"- and our Pathfinders toddler class isn't messing around! With the help of their teachers, Miss Cara and Miss Kristen, they made bubbles as big as they were during water play today!

[06/18/19]   Water Play for Toddlers and Twos will go on as planned today, unless the weather worsens. Thanks!

We hope to see all the important guys in your life at our Father’s Day drop in event this afternoon! Join us from 4-6pm for snacks and a fun activity you can do with your student- No RSVP necessary!

[06/13/19]   Water Play for Preschool and PreKindergarten will go on as planned today, unless the weather worsens. Thanks!

Summer vacation is here and CompassQuest 2019 is in full swing! Today, our campers visited Amphora Bakery and had a blast learning how to decorate cookies and cupcakes to bring home.

For those of you who've RSVPed to attend tonight's first annual Family Picnic, it looks like the weather may put a DAMPer (See what we did there?) on our big picnic plans this afternoon.

Not to worry; In case of rain, our picnic will move to the plaza!

The Compass School of Ashburn is celebrating our SIXTH Birthday today! Please join us in celebrating by taking home a piece of cake to enjoy.

Happy Fri-Yay!

A huge thank you to Ms. Kim and the Glen Echo Park Aquarium, who welcomed our Art Studio Pre-Kindergarten class for a morning of discovery yesterday.
Students enjoyed being exposed to all variety of creatures (Including some hands on Touch Tank experience!), exploring scientific equipment, and participating in feeding times, among other amazing activities.

We can’t wait to celebrate Mother’s Day with you this afternoon at 4pm! Your bouquets are waiting to be built; Thanks for RSVPing!

And we have ducks!
Or, at least, ducks- to- be?
A mama duck has taken up residence on the playground with her eggs and our students couldn't be more excited!

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week (May 6th - 10th) to all the wonderful men and women who make up our teaching staff here at The Compass School!

We appreciate all of your hard work and dedication so much more than you know. ❤️📘✏️🍎🖍

Our Art Studio Pre-Kindergarten class made another trek into DC this week, this time to visit the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute. Parents, teachers, and students all had a blast seeing everything from Pandas and Prairie Dogs to Giant Apes and Amphibians. We are so glad to be able to give our 4 and 5 year olds opportunities like this to get out into the community and watch their world expand!

Our Navigators infant classroom explored Easter eggs on their light table today!

Our Think Tank preschool classroom (3s and 4s) made the most of #CherryBlossomSeason with a cherry blossom branch sketching provocation today.
We can't wait to see what they came up with!

Today was an exciting day at The Compass School, as we opened a third Preschool (3s-4s) classroom this morning! With Miss Josie at the helm, Adventurers operates mostly as an early birthday bridge classroom between Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten classes...

Besides the Spanish, Art, and Music classes included in your child's tuition, The Compass School also offers several outside Ancillary Programs.
Little Hands music and movement, Blackboard Boogie dance by Bella Ballerina, yoga, and Playball (pictured) are all currently offered here on campus, too!

Our Think Tank (3s and 4s) preschool classroom spent part of their day collecting and learning about the different types of leaves that can be found on our campus.

Hooray, Spring!

Tonight's the night, Moms and Dads...

6:30pm - 9:00pm!
Activities!
Pizza!
Popcorn and a Movie (Trolls)!

(Tomorrow, Friday, March 22nd, 2019)

Our Trailblazers twos classroom is ready for the First Day of Spring! This week, they've spent time catching "bugs" in their butterfly nets, painting with egg shells, using magnifying glasses to explore bug and nature books, and planting spring flowers inside of ice cream cones.
We can't wait to watch them grow!

Don't forget to wear GREEN tomorrow; St. Patrick's Day is coming early to The Compass School!

Next Friday (March 22nd) is Parents' Night Out here at The Compass School! All currently enrolled students are invited to join us from 6:30pm until 9:00pm for activities and pizza, followed by movie watching in the Plaza.

Look what our Pre-Kindergarten classrooms are up to this week!

In celebration of Read Across America Day, residents at Waltonwood Ashburn will join students from The Compass School, Ashburn Virginia in reading some of Dr. Seuss’s classics such as “The Cat in the Hat,” “Green Eggs and Ham” and “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.”

Sponsored by the National Education Association, Read Across America Day encourages children to celebrate reading on Dr. Seuss’s birthday.

During this special intergenerational activity, residents of the senior living community and the students will spend time together reading some of their favorite Dr. Seuss books. The senior living community will also donate books to the school to ensure these stories can be enjoyed by students for years to come.

Hope to see everyone at our Luau and Open House today! This free community event is open to the public- so bring your friends!

Saturday, February 23rd. 10:30am- 1:00pm.

The Compass School of Ashburn will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday, February 20th) due to predictions of inclement weather. We will reopen for our normally scheduled hours (6:30am to 6:30pm) the following day (Thursday, February 21st).

As an all-weather school, this was a tough call to make- but the safety of our students and staff is our top priority!

Our Pathfinders toddler class had a wonderful time when Miss Jasmine came to lead their weekly art class today!

❤️ Hope to see everyone this afternoon! ❤️

Here at The Compass School, we understand that sometimes even Wonder Woman needs help straightening her cape...

Especially if there's another Wonder Woman on hand to help out!

Just a couple gentlemen from our Trailblazers twos classroom, getting things ready to steal your girl at The Friendship Party on the 14th! ❤️

We're so happy this break in the winter weather allowed us to welcome so many new fish to our school today!

January is always a peak time for enrollment and we are filling up fast.

Yesterday our Art Studio Pre-K and Inventor's Workshop Twos classes were able to collaborate on two of their current projects. Art Studio is learning about community helpers (like Teachers) and Inventor's is learning about geography and heritage; They thought it would be a fabulous idea to have the 4 and 5 year old students help "teach" the 2 year olds with books and puzzles they selected about different countries.

As a Reggio Emilia inspired program, we think real- life skill and community building activities like these can't be beat!

LCPS was closed due to weather and we loved having our Clubhouse Before/ After group with us all day! (The fact that they baked us cupcakes with Ms. Rasha didn’t hurt, either!😉)

Here at The Compass School, we try to acknowledge the hard work and exhaustive efforts of our parents and teachers as often as possible. (After all, raising kids is hard work!) Yesterday we celebrated both National Chocolate Cake Day and Compliment Day with mini cakes for our families and a mailbox full of compliments for our teachers!

Cold season will NOT be hitting our Trailblazers twos room! They made fresh squeezed orange juice with Miss Elizabeth this week and couldn't get enough of that yummy Vitamin C.

We had such a great meet and greet with Wildlife Ambassadors yesterday. Furry and scaly friends braved the 14 degree day to come and make some human friends in the school Plaza, and we couldn't have loved it more!

Tuesday was National Hat Day and The Compass School celebrated with our first annual Parade of Hats!

The elementary school students in our Clubhouse Before/ After care program were on hand to award superlatives of their own choosing. Here are the results:

-The Weather Outside: Navigators/ Explorers (Infants)
-Best of Nature: Pathfinders (Toddlers)
-The "What We've Learned" Award: Trailblazers (Twos)
-Most Stylish: Inventor's Workshop (Twos)
-Fanciest: Nature Center (Preschool)
-Most Crafty: Think Tank (Preschool)
-Most Seasonal: Sound Stage (Pre-Kindergarten)
-Coolest: Art Studio (Pre-Kindergarten)

Congratulations, Students!

Miss Brittany's Inventor's Workshop twos class knows EXACTLY what we mean by "All Weather School."

After all, a snowy playground is still a playground!

Winter weather can't get US down!

Students (& teachers!) who braved the snow enjoyed an impromptu pizza party with a side of Firetrucks today; Thanks so much to Ashburn Volunteer Fire Rescue Department - AVFRD for taking time out of your Monday to come and make our students' day!

[01/14/19]   If you have to be on these icy roads, please drive carefully.

Be safe, Compass Families!
