One country where testing continued, though, was the Netherlands. When the pandemic first hit, Dutch students participated in virtual learning for eight weeks before their school buildings reopened. Per Engzell, a researcher at Oxford University’s Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science, says those weeks were a waste in terms of academic learning.

“What we learned from our study is that children learned basically nothing at home,” Engzell said. “And it’s clear that this learning loss has not been completely recovered, even now, one and a half years later.”

Sarah is far from your average 7-year-old. The aspiring doctor and writer can already call herself a published author, with her first book being released recently. Through writing and publishing the book, titled “The Mystery of the UFOs”, she hopes to spark curiosity and imagination in her fellow peers.

Sarah is full of words of wisdom for her fellow peers, especially when it comes to encountering challenges in the Kumon Math and Reading Program.

“Kumon is not easy, but it can be if you put your mind to it. If you get tired or frustrated, it's okay to walk away and do something that you enjoy before going back and finishing what you started.“
With that attitude, we know you will go far, Sarah!
