A Parent’s Guide to Student Mental Health
McLean Hospital has delivered an outstanding guide for college families that builds on the good work of The Jed Foundation (JED) and Active Minds, Inc. to bring vital attention to the complex health needs of college students.

It is noteworthy that the report concludes by saying "Purchasing tuition insurance is another factor to consider. It can ease financial stress in the event of a crisis and leave of absence."
With more than 113,000 students taking leaves of absence parents in 2021, families are wise to ask about the college refund policy and if they offer tuition insurance that will provide a refund for the cost of college including tuition, housing and academic fees.

Tuition Insurance from GradGuard

We are often asked by families do I need tuition insurance?

Our answer for more than a decade is that tuition insurance is a smart decision because most families cannot afford the cost of an extra semester.

However, besides purchasing tuition insurance it is also useful to ask your college or university for there refund policy. It should be published on their website, but even with COVID-19 many schools do not easily disclose it.

The second thing to know about tuition insurance is that you must purchase it before the start of classes.

Tuition Insurance Rescues Lost College Deposits And Payments

If you have a child in college, be sure to know what your school's refund policy is. More than likely, your school will only provide a prorated refund thru the first weeks of school and no refund for room, board, or academic fees.

Fortunately, tuition insurance can provide a refund when your school may not. If you can't afford the cost of an extra semester of college, be sure to ask if your school provides tuition insurance. If it does, it is most likely from GradGuard.

Tuition insurance wasn't essential 30 years ago when college was less expensive, but today, given the high cost of a college education it is worth protecting your investment. Just remember it must be purchased before the start of school.
