Calling all 9-12th grade educators, school administrators, and districts for a potential partnership regarding student healthcare literacy using Universal Design Learning (UDL). NOTE: Currently Lincoln Public Schools, & the Hanny Arram Center of Kearney are piloting the program).

What: A NU research team I'm part of is currently working on a grant to secure funding to offer a free online curriculum over healthcare literacy (teaching students about topics such as medication use, medical insurance, the types of health screening to complete, and other decisions about personal treatment of ones’ own health) which can be taught by school counselors, health educators, etc.

Ask: We are looking for potential school partners to consider the curriculum (just consider), and write letters of support to potentially implement in the year 2025. If you'd like to learn more please DM me, or email at [email protected].

Note: The pics are just a snapshot of some of the curriculum modules.

SHAPE America shared an informative infographic on how physical education along with physical activity is important for kids and they need both! Click on the link to download the infographic👇
you seem more concerned about "kindness" than physical fitness. No wonder kids are sick and out of shape...I went to your website and it's 95% rubbish. blah blah blah...not one thing about pushups or situps or running ....if this is the best we have for our youth..then we truly are doomed.

New Blog Post: Fishin’ for Change: Combining Physical Education and Outdoor Recreation by Tayé Brown and Christopher Weber of The Ancona School

"Our vision grew out of a simple question: “What would happen if we closed school for a day and went on a quest of sorts?” Simply hung out a “Gone Fishin’” shingle and took students to a park or preserve where they could experience, explore, and tune in to their immediate surroundings? The day would feature lots of hands-on learning and physical activity, coupled with learning to navigate an unfamiliar environment."

Help Us Revise the National Physical Education Standards‼️

Public Review and Comment, Round 2, is open now through April 3

In this second round of Public Review and Comment, you are asked to provide feedback on the proposed Student Attributes and Draft Standards developed by the SHAPE America National Physical Education Standards Task Force. This version of Student Attributes and Draft Standards have been updated based on the feedback received during the first round of Public Review and Comment.

The Student Attributes and Draft Standards focus on the well-being of the whole person and their physical literacy journey. The standards consider the psychomotor, cognitive, affective, and social learning domains essential to facilitating the physical literacy journey of preK-12 learners.

The physical literacy journey involves the ongoing acquisition and application of the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary for engagement in a lifetime of healthful and meaningful physical activity. The proposed Draft Standards are responsive to the developmental stages of preK-12 learners and are designed to help everyone strive to reach their full potential.

Physical literacy is based on the premise that everyone can acquire and apply knowledge and skills to move more confidently in physical activities that are motivating and enjoyable to the individual. The physical literacy journey is inclusive; it is for all individuals regardless of their ability, age, class, gender, or race.

The development of physical literacy for preK-12 learners is dependent upon quality instruction and opportunities to become more skilled, knowledgeable, and confident movers. The proposed Draft Standards have been designed so teachers can easily build relevant and developmentally appropriate learning experiences that engage all preK-12 learners in their own meaningful physical literacy journey.
