The British Tutoring Academy will be opening our first OC location in Feb 2019 in Laguna Niguel. We offer homework help and test preparation services in all subjects, including preparation for the STAR test. Free testing and registration for the first 30 students. Each student’s journey with us begins with a thorough consultation and diagnostic test to determine their strengths, foundations of understanding and areas of struggle. We use this information to build a customized learning plan for each student to first address any gaps and then help them get ahead of the curve. We work with elementary, middle and high school students.
Hello, I'd like to know the schedule of PTSA meetings for this school year please.

Best Practices for Handling Phishing and Ransomware | California State PTA

Good afternoon,

It has come to my attention that a new email phishing scam has begun. These take a variety of forms, sometimes asking our members to wire money, but this most recent one had to do with purchasing gift cards.

I want to offer a few tips:

1) PTA still handles virtually all of its finances the old-fashioned way, with paper trails. Of course we have systems like Totem to handle our online membership, and PayPal accounts set up for some purchases, but any request for payment via email should be considered suspect.

2) If you receive such a request, and you know it’s not legitimate, simply delete the email. If you have any doubt, establish a “back channel” communication, like a phone call or text to confirm its legitimacy.

3) Most often, if you look at the “from” email address, it is probably an unfamiliar address.

4) A few other red flags would include:

a sense of urgency (“We need to do this today!”)
vague details about what it is actually for
poor grammar

Here is a link to the California State PTA website with their suggestions for best practices regarding phishing scams. https://capta.org/best-practices-for-handling-phishing-and-ransomware/

It is sad that we have to be so suspicious in this digital age. Just wanted to offer a reminder to be constantly vigilant.

Reposting: Invitation to CUSD Informational Webinars

Dear CUSD Families,

I hope you all had a relaxing long weekend. As we near the end of our fourth week of the school year, I want to commend our students and families for your incredible work and continued patience as we navigate this journey together.

As we shared with you last week, the Board of Trustees voted on September 2 to simultaneously apply for an elementary waiver and engage with our stakeholders, as the application process requires, to return to in-class instruction as soon as practicable.

Yesterday, it was also announced that the County of Orange has moved to the Red Tier on Governor Newsom’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy. Provided our numbers stay within the Red Tier (or drop below) for the next two weeks, public schools in Orange County could open for in-person instruction as early as September 22, 2020.

We also shared with you last week that CUSD Trustees approved a phased-in reopening plan that would begin on Monday, September 28, 2020. This communication is linked here for reference.

We understand that families have many questions about our reopening plan, our health and safety protocols, and the waiver process. In an effort to share this information and answer your questions, we have scheduled three 45-minute webinars. Each webinar will have the same presentation.

You are invited to attend one of three informational webinars for families:

Thursday, September 10th at 10:00 am: Click here for webinar link: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_a-Vq6i0pT62kwabZzvFLxQ
Thursday, September 10th at 3:00 pm: Click here for webinar link: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_snR82wONRiKwk1j5w77GYA
Thursday, September 10th at 5:30 pm: Click here for webinar link: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_5AYJm-fQQrOGNeNgXjY7tQ
Thank you for your partnership in supporting our 47,000 CUSD students!

Sincerely,

Kirsten Vital
Superintendent

Reposting:
Dear Falcon Families,

Back to School Night is an opportunity to meet your child’s teachers and learn more about the classroom routines and curricular objectives. Traditionally, our BTSN is in person and in the evening. This year, Back to School Night will be delivered in pre-recorded presentations from each teacher. Please go to our AVMS website to enjoy all the presentations prepared by your child’s teacher:

https://avms-capousd-ca.schoolloop.com

All teachers have included contact information within their presentation, so please feel free to reach out directly to the teacher with any questions. Presentations will be available on the website until 4pm on Friday. If you are unable to watch the presentation during this time frame then you can access it after that time on the teacher’s Canvas home page. If you have any technical difficulties with any link please call the school at 949-831-2622 on Friday and we will assist you.

Thank you and enjoy our “virtual” Back To School Night!

[09/02/20]   AVMS Families:

Please answer these questions for your school

Do you want your Middle school student to get back into the classroom ASAP?

Do you want students back in school Sept 22?
Would you rather continue the online learning at home for the entire first semester?

Possibly re-evaluate the environment and make a decision regarding in-person learning for the second semester in January?

Feel free to share other thoughts and ideas.

Please share how you think most other parents in your school would answer these questions.

You can share your personal thoughts and also how you feel most of the people at our school feel about it - two separate lists if you want. The more feedback we get the better. Feel free to share your opinions even if you miss the deadline.

I will be collecting this information and sharing it with the District PTSA representative.

I need your feed back by 2:30 PM today.

Thanks so much for quickly responding!

Steve Patti-Duran
AVMS PTSA President

[09/02/20]   District Announcement:
Please use email to access links.

Dear CUSD Families,

As we shared with you last Friday, Governor Newsom announced a new framework for reopening schools and the economy described as the “Blueprint for a Safer Economy.” Today, we received information from the Orange County Healthcare Agency and County Health Officer Dr. Clayton Chau that, per the new framework, Orange County would be eligible for re-opening in-person education September 22, 2020, if the county trends continue to move downward.

Our priority is to reopen our campuses safely and to minimize the chance of future disruption. Staff will recommend, for Trustee consideration, a phased opening. The purpose of a phased approach is to make the reopening process as smooth as possible, and to focus on bringing back students in special education with the most significant need for “in person” programs and services first.

We invite all families to read the September 2 Board Report. Additionally, our community is invited to submit written communication to our Board members here. For members of our community who wish to speak during tomorrow evening’s Special Board meeting, you can sign up here. The Board meeting will begin with Closed Session at 4:00 pm and Open Session at approximately 5:30 pm. You can livestream the meeting here.

Our Board of Trustees will discuss our reopening plans tomorrow evening and vote to approve a reopening timeline for our school district based on the new timeline from the state. We will share the final plan and timeline with our community Thursday, September 3.

Sincerely,

Ryan Burris
Chief Communications Officer
