Penn-Kidder Campus 2019-2020

Thanks to all the 6th graders that contributed to our game of catch.
Does anyone have the 8th going in to 9th grade summer reading project questions?
Our Summer Reading Program begins next week! On Tuesday, June 25th, our book is Charlie the Caterpillar. We'll be learning about the life cycle of a butterfly ...and...wait for it.....we'll be making edible life cycles! Yay! Anything edible is the best! On Thursday, Mari Gruber from the Butterfly Sanctuary will visit us. She'll be bringing our own butterfly house. We can observe the life cycle of a butterfly first hand and then in the future have a butterfly release. Please join us. Everyone in the community is welcome!
Hey everyone. Does anybody know when the fleece orders will be in? I ordered my daughters fleece back in August/beginning of September when the form came home and it’s now nearly December and nothing. I called the school maybe two weeks ago and they said they’re supposed to be in any day, but when my daughter went into the office and asked, they said not yet and to ask the PTA or something?? 🤷🏻‍♀️
Is spirit week this week? If so, can someone post the flyer. Ty
Does anyone know when the picture make up day is please and t.i.a.
Were all the school pictures handed out? One of my sons received them but the other didn’t.
Come see us at Hazel Park this Saturday, October 6th at 9am and help support the PK-PTA 8th Grade Committee!
Can someone give me more information on this program ... CCTI Career Academy is accepting applications for 5th - 8th Grade students. Students will be working on Lego Robots this season. Reminder, transportation will be provided to and from Penn Kidder Campus, Monday - Thursday.
Come on out to support the Jim Thorpe cross country team November 10th! Spread the word!! Zumba, basket raffle, 50/50, vendors and free face painting for the kids!
The Scholastic Reading Challenge is having a "Minute Mania Month". It started on August 8th and it goes until September 8th. The students can now log ALL their minutes for the entire summer. So, if your child forgot to do it and would like to log them now, he or she is able to do so. If your child forgot his username or password, please email me at [email protected]. I can look it up for you! Right now we are in 49th place. As a school, we have read a total of 375,199 minutes! Let's see if we can get it higher! Keep reading..Enjoy the rest of your summer with your children. Before long, you will be able to say.."Tag, YOU"RE it"

[04/10/20]   Our teachers need laughs and smiles.
Please feel free to post your child and their talents.
Singing, dancing, artwork,...
We miss them.

[04/07/20]   Good evening.

First, I want to thank everyone for your efforts on our first day of online learning. We finished the day with 89% of our students signing in today. Please make note of the following: students only need to be signed in for attendance one time each day, not for each teacher or each subject. Also, instructions in the area of specials will begin next week.

Next, the PTA would like to inform our parents that Gertrude Hawk confirmed that our order will be shipped today and will arrive to Penn Kidder on Wednesday, April 8th. Orders can be picked up tomorrow from 3 - 6 PM in the back of the school at the parent drop off spot. We appreciate everyone's understanding and support in this matter and thank you for your understanding!

Have a great night.

[04/07/20]   If any parents are still not receiving the emails and/or phone calls from the school please email [email protected] so we can update Powerschool with the correct information.

Penn Kidder Teachers Say Hello!

[04/03/20]   Good afternoon. Due to circumstances out of our control, the Gertrude Hawk pick-up for today has to be postponed. Items have not been delivered and therefore will not be available for pickup this afternoon. The PTA will update the parents as to a rescheduled date of pickup as soon as one becomes available. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

[04/02/20]   Hello 7th and 8th grade parents/students.
Students should be checking their school email regularly.
Eighth grade students have received information regarding 9th grade scheduling, and it is time sensitive.
Other information may have also been sent to your child, so it is important they are using email as a source of communication.
Should your children need assistance with their PowerSchool login info please email [email protected].
Stay well.

[03/16/20]   The Jim Thorpe Area School District will be closed for the next two weeks due to COVID-19. During this time, communications between home and school are essential to have a clear understanding of what the district is doing and your vital role in getting through these challenging times. Be sure to check your phone messages, email and JTASD social media for updates. Parents, students, and the general public will not be permitted in our buildings until we have a reopening date. Should your student need something from your building, a staff member will get you the item and bring it outside to you. We are doing everything in our power to prevent the spread of COVID-19, including enhanced cleaning of the buildings and reviewing all processes to minimize the chance of infection.

Below you will find vital information concerning the operations of the Jim Thorpe Area School District during this time.

School Lunches

Starting Tuesday, March 17th, all caregivers and families may pick-up lunches for their children with two centralized points; one at the Jim Thorpe Area High School and one at the Penn-Kidder Campus. Lunches will be provided free of charge to all school-age children who are in the vehicles. Lunches will include sandwiches, fresh vegetables, fruit and milk. Curbside pick up will be at the front entrance of the high school and at the parent drop-off area at Penn-Kidder Campus.

Technology Access

All laptops and iPads in grades 3-12 had the opportunity to be sent home Friday, March 13. If your child was absent or the computing device was not sent home, please contact the school office for arrangements for pickup. For any district device that may require technical support, please contact the school office.

In regards to technology access for our students in grades K-2, the district would like to offer the option for student iPads to be sent home so they can be used to assist students in maintaining their academic skills through the use of the installed apps. The majority of the apps do not require Internet access, but devices are filtered in regard to Internet access. There will be no requirement for insurance. Should you wish to pick up your child’s iPad and charger, you may do so on Tuesday, March 17 or Wednesday, March 18 in front of the L.B. Morris School or the Penn-Kidder Campus from 1-3.

For those families who do not have Internet access, the district does have a limited supply of Kajeet Internet hot spots still available on a first-come first-serve basis. Please contact the school office should you wish to check one out. For longer term options, there are some programs available for qualifying households in regards to low-cost Internet service and computers. Please visit for more information.

During the two-week closure, students will not be required to participate in online classes. The focus will be on maintaining academic progress. Although direct instruction is not occurring, learning can still take place. First, students can use PowerSchool, Seesaw (K-2), Google Classroom (3-8) and/or Schoology (9-12) to check for any outstanding assignments. It is recommended that any incomplete or missing assignments be completed now. If the assignment is a test or quiz, please wait for directions from your teacher.

Next, it is suggested that you keep your child on a schedule. Times should be set for starting the day, academics, creativity, chores, quiet time, and physical activity. Suggested activities include reading, art, music, writing, science/environmental, etc. Cooking, gardening, listening to or playing different types of music, creating art pieces, playing games, or writing letters to the elderly or soldiers are fun ways to spend this time together. Students may also watch educational channels/movies, such as the History Channel, Discovery Education, BrainPop, and Khan Academy.

Third, students have access to the many online educational sites offered by the district. Students are encouraged to spend time keeping their skills sharp by working on a variety of skills. They are encouraged to use sites from all subject areas. A list of links to these educational sites can be found on the district website under Shortcuts.

In the event the district is closed longer than these two weeks, additional information on learning and traditional school events will be provided based on guidance from the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Sports and Extracurricular Activities

All spring sports and extracurricular activities are suspended until further notice. This includes activities such as the spring play, prom, and concerts. When schools resume, all efforts will be made to resume normal activities based on guidance from PDE and Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association.

To help us get beyond COVID-19, everyone needs to follow the Center For Disease Control’s guidelines for public gathering and personal hygiene. Together we will get through these challenging times. Thank you.
