Athens County STNA Training aka Between the Lines Nursing, LLC

Providing STNA training in a Christ centered school for people wanting to work in a nursing home or meet the prerequisite for nursing school.

Training to become a State Tested Nursing Assistant approved by Ohio Department of Health

[06/01/17]   This will be the hardest post I have placed on this page. And I realize it is long overdue, but I have procrastinated because this post will make me face the reality of my news. On one hand, this is good news because I am finally retiring. On the other hand... I will not be teaching the classes any more and our school is officially closed. That is so, so difficult to say. This will be a very long post, and of course you don't have to read to the end. But, at the end is really the beginning of the next chapter of my life.

During the 3 years that our school has been open, I have had the pleasure of meeting and teaching over 200 students. I can honestly say that with over 200 people that came into my classroom there were only a very few that were difficult to work with. Most of my students were eager to learn and truly applied themselves. Many were parents and held full time jobs or attended high school or college full time and yet showed up for every class and each clinical day. Some even held full time jobs and attended Hocking College or OU, yet still made it to my class and stayed awake! One lady actually held 1 full time and 2 part time jobs and she was always on time. One lady was the mother of 11 children, attended Hocking College and yet achieved the highest grade of any of my students on the state test!

I will miss teaching the STNA class more than I could ever explain. Teaching people during the last 3 years to do the things I have enjoyed for over 30 years is a blessing that only God could provide.

I thought I had retired in 2013 only to have my oldest granddaughter call me and say, "Grandma, I need my STNA for nursing school". It made sense for me to get certified to teach the class and help Kayla get her STNA. She is now an RN working in a hospital. I couldn't be more proud of her. 3 years later, my second oldest granddaughter, Marissa decided to take the class because she wants to be able to help people. Two other granddaughters, Emily and Audrey have been a huge help in the paperwork, bookkeeping, and being actors for testing and for practicing with the students during classes. My only grandson, Chris has helped move all the furniture and equipment more times than he probably wants to count.
For all the help from all the grand-kids, I can't say thank you enough! but, THANK YOU, Kayla, Marissa, Chris, Emily and Audrey!

To all of my family, Mel and Rich, Dave and Meg again, I thank you for all your support.

Chuck Murray, you are one awesome, ineffable husband to support me in so many different ways from the beginning until now. Physically, emotionally, financially, and just listening when I knew it was time to give up the school because I couldn't physically keep up with it but I didn't want to give up.

The Lord has blessed me with so many things in keeping the school open. When I struggled with making the decision to close, I heard that the landlord of the building had a realtor show the school to someone from out of town. I honestly didn't think anyone would buy the place. I prayed that God would show me if He wanted me to close this chapter of my life. I specifically told Him... if You want me to close, then let this building be sold. The next day I received a phone call that the building was being sold. God spoke loud and clear. After we completed the last class and last state test, came the hard part of figuring out what to do with all the equipment. Hospital beds, wheel chairs and classroom supplies aren't exactly a big hit on Ebay. Once again, God showed His power. After multiple attempts to sell the equipment, we found out about a great family in northern Ohio that was trying to start a nonprofit STNA class. But, they had nothing to work with as far as equipment. After a few phone calls, we agreed to donate all of our hospital beds, wheelchairs, linens, and enough that it filled up a big Uhaul truck. This is what got me past the depression of closing the school. Knowing that God had placed a connection between us and someone that had the same goals I had in teaching the STNA skills and information to people that were going to make great nursing assistants and or nurses.

Now, for the new beginning... where do I go from here? Only God knows. He has never closed a door for me without having a new plan already laid out. For starters, I will have more time to spend with family and the 3 new little people in our family. I already volunteer with the CASA program, providing advocates for foster children, so maybe I can take on an additional case. We adopted a fantastic little Jack Russell Terrier as a rescue dog. Most of you know Hospice is a true love of mine. They have need of volunteers at Hospice at Kimes. and I feel led to follow that direction. So, for now....I will follow whatever path God takes me on.

Thank you to all the students that have allowed me to share in your path to join the healthcare world. And to all the special people that have become lifelong friends since you entered my class at Between the Lines Nursing, LLC..

[02/22/17]   I am currently unable to be on Facebook. We have a family member that is very ill and in the hospital. I will try to check messages once a day. Sorry for any inconveniences.

[01/09/17]   I have seen several comments related to the cost for this class. In Ohio, there is a way to be reimbursed in full for the class. However, it is a reimbursement which means you have to pay for the class first. After you pass the STNA class and become eligible to to take the state exam for STNA, obtain a job as an STNA in a nursing home in Ohio, the nursing home is required to reimburse you what you paid for the class. There are some rules , of course. It has to be the first nursing home you go to work for. They are permitted to to pay you back over a period of time. I will try to post a copy of the law tomorrow.

[01/07/17]   New STNA class will begin on Jan 16th. Classes will be in the evenings and clinicals will be held on 2 Saturdays.

This is for the required 75 hours training required by Ohio Department of Health that will prepare students to pass the state exam. STNA (state tested nursing assistant) can work in local nursing homes or meet the

[11/02/16]   Congratulations to Kayla Marie Coffee, RN!!!! Kayla was the one Hocking student that began this awesome journey of our STNA training. It all started with a phone call, "Grandma, I just found out I have to get my STNA before I can do clinicals in Hocking's nursing program." Now, 2 1/2 years later, there is a beautiful young woman that has added the initials RN to her name and each month approximately 8 students complete my class and earn their STNA to begin their new career working in a nursing home providing professional, loving care to the elderly or continue their quest for becoming a nurse. Thank you, Kayla for getting me started in this. And, CONGRATULATIONS to K Coffee, RN
