Denver Dodrill

I was born and raised in Franklin County, near Columbus, Ohio, where I assisted my father in farming. In my childhood I knew the security of a Christian home and attended the Westerville Wesleyan Church. Upon graduation from high school I entered Circleville Bible College where God called me into his ministry. In 1977, I graduated from Marion College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. The degree of Masters of Arts in pastoral leadership was received in 2010 from Indiana Wesleyan University. Pastoral leadership has been my life’s work, which started at the age of 20. The Lord has used me to shepherd the following communities of faith: assistant pastor of South High St. United Methodist Church in Columbus, Ohio. My first solo pastoral experience was the Jonesboro First United Methodist Church in Indiana. In 1977, I serviced Burt Ave. Wesleyan Church in Coshocton, Ohio and in 1985 came to Christ Community Wesleyan Church in Athens, Ohio. My wife Marilyn and I have been married for 37 years. We have two adult children. Our daughter Michelle is married to Jeremy Hawk and is an adjunct professor at IWU. They have two little ones, Eily and Kai. Our son Jonathan is in a doctorate program at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary.

[04/11/19]   “ Our Lord’s cross is the gateway into His life: His Resurrection means that He has power now to convey His life to me. When I am born again from above, I received from the Risen Lord His very life.” Oswald Chambers

[03/24/19]   Jesus Christ is using today’s trials to strengthen and to equip you for tomorrow. So be patient and keep following Him.

Do You Remember When

Do you

“If you stop learning today, you stop leading tomorrow.”
~Howard Hendricks

[08/23/18]   Just a thought ~
“Enthusiasm is contagious. It’s difficult to remain neutral or indifferent in the presence of a positive thinker.”
~~~Melvin Maxwell
[08/13/18]   Heraclitus, a Greek philosopher, is credited with saying, “The only thing that is constant is change.”
[08/08/18]   Just a thought~
“Anyone can steer the ship, but it takes a real leader to chart the course.”
~George Barna
[07/24/18]   Just a thought....
It is perception, not reality that influences feelings. When perception is communicated with emotional feelings, reality becomes distorted.
[07/19/18]   Just a Thought:
“Life without risks is not worth living.”
~ Charles A. Lindbergh
[06/21/18]   Just a thought: Negativity is the shadow of Apathy.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”
~Colossians 3:23
[12/06/17]   Before I give the fifth and final way to awaken the heart to Scripture, lets review the first four-
1. Meditate on God’s word day and night.
(Psalm 1:1-3)
2. Let the word dwell in you richly.
(Colossians 3:16)
3. Remember, that the authors of the Bible spoke from God.
(2 Peter 1:20-21)
4. Remember that all Scripture is useful.
(2 Timothy 3:14-16)
5. Do what it says.
~~Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it-not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it-they will be blessed in what they do.
~James 1:21-25.
[11/22/17]   Five ways to awaken the Heart to Scripture:
Number 4:
Remember that all Scripture is useful.
~~But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it,
~~and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
~~All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching,rebuking,correcting and training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:14-16)
[11/19/17]   Five ways to awaken the Heart to Scripture:
Number 3:
Remember, that the Authors of the Bible spoke from God.
~~Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things.
~~For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. (2 Peter 1:20-21)
[11/10/17]   Five ways to awaken the Heart to Scripture:
Number 2:
Let the word dwell in you richly.
~~Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. (Colossians 3:16)
[11/02/17]   Five ways to awaken the Heart to Scripture:
Number 1:
Meditate on God’s word day and night.
~Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.
~Psalms 1:1-3
[08/31/17]   The material blessings of life are either a mirror in which we see ourselves, or a window through which we see our Good Heavenly Father.
How are you seeing your blessings of life?
[08/22/17]   Helpful thought to live above mediocrity-
"One of the marks of true greatness is the ability to develop greatness in others."
~ J. C. Macaulay
[08/01/17]   "You cannot think small and discover the potential of smallness in the kingdom of God."
Then Jesus asked, "What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it to? It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds perched in its branches."
Again he asked, "What shall I compare the kingdom of God to? It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough."
~Luke 13:18-21
[06/29/17]   "Motivation is like the tide. It raises everyone up when it comes in." ~ Bill Burch
Are you motivated to be a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ ?
[06/20/17]   Something to think about and then do! Why not change the pattern of your prayers? Wake up some morning and ask, "Dear Lord, is there anything I can do for you today?"
[06/15/17]   Whenever our convenience is inconvenience, look for the opportunity to serve during that period of inconvenience.
[06/12/17]   "Love the Lord your God with all of your heart and with all of your soul and with all of your strength and with all of your mind and, love your neighbor as yourself." (Luke 10:27)
To whom do you plan on being a neighbor to this week?
[06/06/17]   A helpful thought to live above mediocrity:
“He who cannot forgive breaks the bridge over which he himself must pass.” -Tom Eliff
[05/22/17]   Helpful thought to live above mediocrity:
“Reputation is made in a moment. Character is built in a lifetime.”
--James Leggett
[12/12/16]   Discovering the Christmas gift of Joy
J Focus on Jesus!
O Focus on others!
Y Forget about you!
[12/06/16]   This past Sunday during our morning worship service we focused on the Christmas gift of Peace. As you walk through this Advent Season, remember that peace really starts with God. The result of that peace with God is that we have peace within, so that we might be able to share peace in this troubled society.
It was my intention to share this Peace Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi during the message. Since that did not happen, I give it to you and encourage you to read it every day this week and meditate on it throughout the day.
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
Grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled, as to console,
to be understood and to understand,
to be loved as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Pray during this Advent Season that we will experience and share the Prince of Peace!
[12/01/16]   HOPE is the Christmas gift that energizes faith to continually pursue the Prince of Peace.
