The ACA hosted its Halloween Bash fundraiser Friday night and attendees enjoyed some fun moments! Costume contest winner was Mike Jacobitz who dressed as a bottle of Elmer's Glue.

"Countess" Mary Martin read a very scary story about the legend of Ghost Tressel in Sand Creek. Those who wished, purchased a one of a kind "art in a box" which when unwrapped, held a piece made by ACA member artists.

Bringing the Fine Craft Arts to Adrian Center for the Arts | Patronicity

The Adrian Center for the Arts (ACA) is wrapping up a fund campaign to bring the Fine Craft Arts of Glassblowing, Metalsmithing/Jewelry and Metal Sculpture to our campus. A 3,200 existing space will be renovated to house these three studios. The ACA is excited to add these Fine Craft Arts to the ACA creative footprint and increase our mediums for students of all ages and abilities to "Learn, Create and Grow."

We are now in the final phase of the fundraising campaign to raise $25,000. The amount raised will be matched dollar for dollar by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC). With your donation and the MEDC match, we will raise the $50,000 needed to reach the finish line of the $300,000 campaign!

We’re thrilled to be participating in the Public Spaces Community Places program, and we’re confident our community will help us raise our goal so we can receive a matching grant from the MEDC. Donate online: Patronicity.com/aca

Youth Class: Halloween Tunnel Book
Saturday, October 23, 9:30am - 12:30pm

Participants (ages 8-12) will develop their idea for a Halloween scene, considering things that will be near and far. They will determine which parts will become a different layer, things that are close, far away or somewhere in between. They will paint a background and then draw out two or three more 'layers' to add color pencil and various media. With the help of the instructor, portions of each layer will be cut away. All layers will be assembled with accordion folded sides, so that the viewer sees through the multiple layers to the background, creating a 3-dimensional effect.

A Vision: Sculpting an Arts Community

The Adrian Center for the Arts has evolved in many ways since its founding in 2015 on what was the Adrian Training School and Michigan State Police Post property. The land and empty buildings had been given to the city by the state, and the city was happy to partner with the LCVA and a group of enthusiastic visual artists who wanted to bring life to the old campus.

With the purchase of the property by PlaneWave Instruments in 2018, the Adrian Center of the Arts wondered where its future was. But PlaneWave was pleased to invite the ACA to continue to operate its studios in six of the property’s buildings. The company was excited to bring the arts and sciences together on one campus and entered into a long-term lease with the ACA

The ACA is now concentrating on growing its residential artist programs, classes for all ages and community activities. The ACA has at its center a new gallery and is hoping to increase public traffic to enjoy the exhibits and purchase art created by resident and member artists. Dreams for expanded activities include partnerships with community organizations that can benefit from authentic art, classes and campus experiences. The campus, with beautiful landscaping, some trees over two centuries old, lends itself to “plein air” artist experiences that allow artists to paint in the midst of nature.

Resident and member artists strive to create a special community and hold inner organization exhibits and collaborative creations to explore other art forms and get to know one another better. It is a true artist community that welcomes all. The ACA and the Croswell Opera House and Adrian Symphony Orchestra as arts anchors in the Lenawee community. It is a stakeholder in the revitalization of Adrian, and is determined to dream a future where residents and travelers will feel at home and enjoy time on a campus full of history with a taste of how the visual arts may evolve into the future.
