In response to a recent student inquiry for a lesson, I shared a nugget of Wisdom:

Dear Miss,

I totally understand about things not sticking. It’s that we must get to the point where a specific skill becomes worth it enough in our own minds to learn. This is why I explain to even my younger students Why we are learning a skill, because the Why is the most important element to unlock the brain’s full potential. Some people are very keen on learning, because there Why is motivated by money. Some people want to learn, because they truly love a topic. There are many Whys, and everyone has to find theirs. But first, they have to be honest with themselves, and for some, that is a very scary thing. I applaud you for admitting that it didn’t stick, because I’ve experienced the same phenomenon. It was because I was out of touch with my Why. Examine your motivation. I look forward to a potential first session.
