Typography. Art. Chocolate. Love.
It must be February 14! Happy Valentine’s Day to our ONU Art & Design family. ❤️
ONU alumna helped created this logo for a public library. ❤️
We have been working on an updated logo for the library. We think this really embodies the spirit of the libraries, communities and the love of reading. Special Thanks to Marianne Galyk for helping us create it.
Love is in the air! Tonight, the AIGA/ONU students put that on paper. Students had a fun time making hand-drawn Valentine's Day cards.
This afternoon, the ONU art & design community virtually attended “Design Pioneers: African American Graphic Designers,” a lecture by Glenford Laughton and sponsored by the Letterform Archive. Students learned about graphic designers who have left an indelible mark on the field, flourished in the face of racial adversity by expressing and fighting to have their artistic voices heard, and created their own companies and/or excelled as entrepreneurs.
Our Senior Capstone Exhibit is now on view in the Elzay Gallery of Art. All of our Bachelor of Arts and Fine Arts candidates in studio arts, art education, and graphic design have devoted a full semester to producing a thematically focused research project as part of the required senior capstone experience. The capstone project is designed to encourage students to define the complex intersection between personal voice, conceptual understanding, the ability to conduct and use research, and to effectively use their liberal arts education in a process of creating a compelling, professional presentation.
Aubrey Davis, a BA/studio arts candidate from Columbus Grove, is exhibiting Mnemonic Exercise. “Within the long history of quilting in America, and the far longer history of natural dye usage worldwide, I see individuals making use of whatever materials are around them to amass a sum greater than their parts. An art born of necessity, quilts function to keep warm, but also offer a design opportunity: an accessible canvas made of waste. Adopted previously from my experience with Polar SURF Lab, I used reclaimed fabrics, secondhand equipment, and most crucially, a garden bed of flowers I grew from seed and harvested by my own hands to dye the fabric. The work is a fully reclaimed and naturally dyed quilt, exploring memory and cycles.”
Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. Come join AIGA/Ohio Northern to design and create some fun, creative Valentine’s Day cards. Make one for yourself, a friend, or even a secret crush! We will be providing some supplies, but free to bring your favorite materials with you.

Lilia Schnipke, a BFA/graphic design candidate from Ottawa, Ohio, is exhibiting Tapistory. “I am passionate about design and dance. I am deeply inspired by the rhythmic energy and the rich history of tap dance. There is a unique intersection of movement and design that led to the creation of Tapistory, a custom type face that visually translates the essence of tap dance. Each character serves as a tribute to the tap legend who shaped this art form, capturing their fluid movements, percussive beats, and innovative spirit.”

Jillian Newlan, a BA/art education candidate from Marshalville, Ohio, is exhibiting The Heart of the Table. “I created this practical set as something to be used and enjoyed by my family. I cherished the times I am able to sit down with my family at the dinner table, enjoy a meal, and talk about our day. The table setting invites viewers into a glimpse of a personal aspect of my life. The installation offers a handcrafted, practical and beautiful experience enhanced by art.”
