Bold and Centered Productions and Township Line Music School
are pleased to announce the Summer Musical for 2013!
Tragic Magic

Tragic Magic is a re-telling of “The Twelve Dancing Princesses.” A long time ago in a faraway kingdom, there lived a king and queen, their daughters (the princesses), the people of the kingdom, including the court jester, the messengers, and the townsfolk. Unbeknownst to all of them, there was also a population of magic folk, who were in the midst of problems of their own. As both worlds collide, their lives entwine with the probability of dire consequences for the princesses. Who can figure out what is happening? Who can save them?

AUDITIONS: Parts in Tragic Magic will be cast by audition only. Auditions will be held in mid-May, with rehearsals beginning soon after, while school is still in session. Rehearsals will rev up in full as soon as school is out for the summer and will continue through performance weekends. In order to be part of the show, you must commit to missing no more than 3 rehearsals and being present for all shows and all tech-week rehearsals. Tuition is $400 per child. Rehearsals and shows are held at the Cheltenham Center for the Arts, 439 Ashbourne Rd., Cheltenham, PA 19012. We plan to hold auditions during the week of May 13, specifics TBA. Rehearsals will begin with a read-through the week of May 27, and will continue through the end of school on an infrequent and shortened schedule (to be determined as the school schedule becomes known). These rehearsals are strongly encouraged. Once school is out, we will rehearse each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 6:30 PM to 8:45 PM at The Cheltenham Art Center. Tech Week rehearsals are Monday July 22 through Thursday July 25 with Opening Night on Friday, July 26. Performance dates are July 26 and 27 at 7 PM, July 28 at 2 PM & August 2 and 3 at 7 PM, and August 4 at 2 PM. Traditionally, there is a cast party for cast and families following the final show.
Children and teens from 7 to 17 are invited to audition. Please prepare a song of your choosing (show tunes are best!) 16 bars is the standard audition length—it need not be the whole song. You will be given script exerpts to read at the audition.
We hope you will join us this summer for a fulfilling and fun musical theater experience!

Stop Caring What Other People Think Of You

By Anthony Meindl | Posted Feb. 6, 2013, 2 p.m.
Share:

We expend so much energy trying to look good, maintain control, focus on the end result, micromanage, and worry about things that are insignificant. By doing so, we lose the ability to be fully expressed, liberated, and free in the moment.

You’ve got to stop caring how you think other people think of you. The truth is – they’re not thinking of you – because they’re thinking of themselves. Like all of us.

When I say, “care less,” I’m not asking you to stop caring about things that matter.

I’m talking about giving up worrying about things that have to do with the ego, such as how you look, how you’re perceived, trying to maintain appearances, and trying to show you have it all together.

Have you ever noticed that when you audition for something you don’t give a rat’s ass about, you end up booking? Why is this? At a practical level, you simply free yourself up in the moment and express yourself without judgment and concern for the end results. You don’t care how you look and consequently the energy that normally gets diffused when we are so concerned with the outcome, ends up instead being used properly, that is, creatively.

From a scientific and universal standpoint, it also is a declaration of alignment. In other words, you were totally in the moment of full creative expression. You weren’t second-guessing and stopping yourself from being expressed and you let go of the end results. Normally, we end up leaving an audition and immediately question every choice we made, desperately clinging to the need of wanting the job, beating ourselves up for what we didn’t do, and feeling like we totally stank up the room. All of these things are an implicit declaration to the universe stating “I don’t really believe I can have that.” And so we don’t.

Instead breathe. Remind yourself that you’re talented and a rock-star and you’re doing just fine where you are. Because you are. A job booking (or not booking) does not change the value of who you are, unless you believe it does. And the truth is, it never can. The only expectation you ever need to fulfill is letting go of the expectation of how you think something should look.

As you do, you’ll live more and care less.

Do you remember William Steig's The Bad Island. One of my favorites. http://boldandcentered.com/the-door-in-the-book/

The Door in the Book | boldandcentered.com Books were a big part of my childhood. I read all the time. There was a large curved branch in a pine in the yard of the house where we would spend our summers in which I could curl us and read. I was totally hidden. On occasion my father would yell at me to stop reading and go run around a little.
