A founders day message from the World Scout Committee Chairperson on the ocassion of the 2019 Founders day

Today we celebrate the birthday of our Movement’s founder, Robert Baden-Powell, whose visionary ideas have enabled generations of young people to discover the power of serving others. On this occasion, we remember the special moments of making our first Promise, building new friendships, and experiencing all the fun and adventure which is at the heart of Scouting.

With our common heritage, we share this special day with our friends in Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting, who are celebrating World Thinking Day. Each year, we take the opportunity on this day to recommit to working together and learning from each other, because that enables us to change the lives of millions of girls and young women, and boys and young men worldwide for the better.

As global citizens, Scouts are guided by the Promise and Law, and empowered through the Youth Programme, to make a lasting contribution to their communities. Everyday young people are rising to the challenges they see around them by tackling the effects of climate change, promoting gender equality, acting as Messengers of Peace, and working towards sustainable development.

Under the banner of Scouts for SDGs our Movement of 50 million Scouts is mobilising to make the world’s largest youth contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals. Together, this ambitious effort will deliver two million local actions and contribute four billion hours of community service to improve the planet by 2030. If you are looking for inspiration about how to take action for sustainable development, check out the new Scouts for SDGs hub which has everything you need to know about the 17 Goals and how Scouts are working to create a better world.

Enabling young people to take action in their local communities would not be possible without the support of excellent leaders, many of whom have benefited from taking part in a Wood Badge training. This year, we mark the 100th anniversary of the Wood Badge training course, with the first edition conducted in 1919 by our founder in Gilwell Park. Since then, the Wood Badge has become a symbol that recognizes the extraordinary dedication and leadership of adult volunteers who are making Scouting such a unique educational experience. I encourage you to take part in the centenary celebrations being held at the World, Regional, and national levels, or organise events and activities in your community to mark this special milestone. Head online to learn about the history of the Wood Badge and to get ideas about how to celebrate the centenary.

Today, as we reflect on the foundation of our Movement, we are also looking to the future with a focus on strengthening our network and deepening our impact. The newly-launched WOSM Service Platform is reimagining how we support National Scout Organizations (NSOs) to deliver better Scouting activities and programmes to more young people worldwide. We look forward to receiving requests for support, collaborating across our Movement, and equipping all 170 NSOs with the tools they need to take Scouting to the next level.

Our founder believed in the power of young people to change the world. Today, as we renew our Scout Promise and commitment to serve, let’s keep our founder’s legacy alive by continuing to work towards a common goal – to leave this world a little better than we found it.

Have an awesome Founder’s Day!

The Bear :)

‘Taking on a new role as Chief Ambassador for World Scouting...’ Today I am so proud to be announcing that I’m taking on the new role as Chief Ambassador for World Scouting. World Organization of the Scout Movement - WOSM
This role is about bringing adventure and life skills to young people all around the world.
I also want to reassure our amazing UK Scouting family that this is not replacing my role as UK Chief Scout! This new global role is simply about extending our incredibly positive Scouting influence to millions of young people from almost every country on earth.
We are part of this awe-inspiring global Scouting family, this force for good, some 50 million Scouts strong, and my goal is to encourage the largest mobilisation of Scouts in history, to effect positive change in their communities.
Thank you to all you Scouts for being beside me in this endeavour... Together we can spread so much goodness.

In an effort to revive scouting and the girl guides movement in the primary schools of jinja municipality where the scout sections of cubs and juniors has been dormant for a while . the brother, sister movements had an afternoon to themselves as scout masters and guides led their sixiers, patrols, new recruits to make the Promise.

This has been the first of its kind in jinja scouts history and we look forward to have the scout movement grow and blossom in the primary schools as it has been our way in the secondary schools with venture section.

The event was graced with headteachers, Ac principal district education officer as the chief guest.

We applaud the scout trainers who have kept the jinja way and trained the new recruits.

For now. The sky is the limit for scouting in jinja. The jinja way as we say .

World Organization of the Scout Movement - WOSM

"The Scout Movement is a valuable force for connecting young people from across the planet. Participants have the chance to develop physically, intellectually and socially while contributing to their communities. I know this from personal experience.

As a Scout, I enjoyed outdoor activities such as camping and hiking. Through my participation, I gained important skills, discipline and a sense of responsibility towards society. These experiences have served me well ever since. As they say, “Once a scout, always a scout.” — United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon

Agriculture is cool , Scouts not so ?

Are you one of those who believe Agriculture has an image problem? Simply put, for the majority of the world's youth, agriculture simply is not seen as being "cool" or attractive. Most think of it only as back-breaking labor, without an economic pay-off-and little room for career advancement.

The UN - (ILO) predicts that, globally, there will be 74.2 million unemployed young people this year, an increase of 3.8 million since 2007. Youth unemployment is both a threat and an opportunity.

There are still numerous untapped opportunities in agriculture for passionate young Africans. Do you believe agriculture makes a good career choice? How can we encourage more young people to seek an agricultural profession?
