WORKING HARD TO PUT A DIPLOMA IN EVERY RURAL HOME IN UGANDA BY GIVING RURAL YOUTH ACCESS TO POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION

Do you think working together as a community to rectify education effectiveness will help solve community problems?

The Public Education system in Uganda has failed to serve an adjustive purpose amidst a robust and functioning private education system. This as a result is posing a long term challenge for the country. As a country, we are creating two breeds of citizens. On one hand are citizens who are schooled but not educated and therefore not innovative and unable to lead. A majority of these reside in the rural Uganda forming the core of the led regardless of going to school. On the other hand are a breed of citizens with leadership skills and able to lead others. This category is mainly found in urban areas, can afford access to post-secondary education and form the core of leadership. This form of socio-economic stratification is affectively entrenching the culture of “them verses us” in the management of public affairs and development.

East Africa Community College is an institution of post-secondary education that provides especially vulnerable rural youth with an opportunity to obtain a certificate, a diploma or an associate degree.

For high school graduates who are not ready to enter University, EACC serves as a preparation period.

EACC is therefore an educational alternative for individuals who want to improve their personal knowledge and skills but cant afford the high costs in commercial higher institutions of learning.

Almost 500,000 students complete O and A levels put together but only about 180,000 make it to higher Institutions of learning leaving 350,000 as dropouts, a fact that I believe is destroying Uganda's efforts of becoming a first world country by 2070. EACC is trying to put a diploma in Every Uganda home. What do you think?
