SACCO members, who include both savers and borrowers, are motivated and facilitated to use their cooperative to recycle money from those who have it to those who need it to finance education, without anybody outside taking a profit and with interest rates set so that the system works in everyone’s interest. Trip CHANCE addresses the concern that in the context of Covid-19 financial challenges, the African public funds alone will not be sufficient to achieve the SDG4. Through experience, SWEET Africa has found that when village SACCOs are mobilized to take a share of the responsibility for their own development, as it is in this Trip-CHANCE, they are empowered to gain the experience and confidence necessary for further development opportunities. Trip-CHANCE generally targets groups that face barriers to participation in learning including early school leavers; those without preliminary qualifications; the long-term unemployed; careers seeking to return to school to acquire basic qualifications and/or vocational skills

Trip-CHANCE specifically targets (a) out of school at upper primary school level (aged 11 years plus) able to write the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) exams following 9-months of accelerated learning Mentorship program and (b) out of school at post primary School-Ordinary level (aged 15 years plus), able to sit and write the Uganda Ordinary Level Certificate of Education exams following 9-months of accelerated learning Mentorship program . Trip-CHANCE also accommodates (c) out of school /Grade Repeaters, able to sponsor and (d) Mature-Age Adults, irrespective of age, gender, marital status, disability or sexual orientation status –provided all are able to write the National Grade exams following 9-months of accelerated Mentorship program .
