Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board

We are proud of our old student Ritah Nakimuli

Welcome to this short web-series where as UBTEB we have taken an Initiative to trace down our Graduates who have gone through our skills competence based assessment program and have been able to make something for themselves and have an Impact on their Society and community.

The main aim of this docu-series to highlight the importance of competence based training and the type of Graduates that UBTEB assessment produces.
We have travelled far and wide to bring to you these stories of people just like you and document them in video so you can see what they have achieved.

NAKIMULI RITAH:

UBTEB: Please tell Us About Yourself?

NR: I am Nakimuli Ritah, I finished my P.7 on 2007 at Kiyogani Primary School. I went to Kikaya Vocational School, Bulenga. I did a Junior Certificate in Motor Vehicle engineering, when I finished in 2011, i went back to that same school and i did Part 1 UBTEB and i finished it in 2013. I Started working in my Garage Bukokoolo Service Garage, Mityana. In 2017 i went to St. Theresa Vocational Training Center Zigoti, i did part 2 UBTEB, Advanced certificate in Motor Vehicle Engineering. In 2018 I am now enrolled in Uganda Royal Institute where I am in my first Year Diploma in Moto Vehicle Engineering.

UBTEB: Why Did you chose Vocational Education?

NR: I grew Up in a garage, I loved Repairing Cars thats what made me want to be a Mechanic, I admired working in Toyota, Nissan but the ordinary education was simply not enough. I was advised that to be an I.O.V (Inspector Of Vehicles) i needed to have a Diploma in this training as I was guided by a Gentleman called Mr. Ssemwanga. So I decided not to go into Secondary and chose vocational Education.

UBTEB: What are some of the benefits of a competence based Assessment Program?

NR: When I finished 3 years meeting my friends and they also see that I am doing a little better. Going to ask for a Job, i found that my former Classmate was going to be my Surbodinate.

UBTEB: How did you get your First Job?

NR: When I finished my Junior Certificate in 2011 I went to a company called Pan Africa to get a Job. We were 8 people who applied for the Job and mostly it was old men of 40 years but me armed with my Junior Certificate. When we arrived the Indian Boss said, “Lets try this young girl and we see of she has the pontetial!” I did the welding and filling and then the Indian Boss Took me and not because of my papers but because of my Skill.

UBTEB: Vocational Education Vs. Theoretical

NR: Vocational Is Better because The student learns while he is on the Job, but a Child who finishes 4 years in secondary and its like it was all for nothing because they have no Idea what they are going to do and incase the Parent dies then the child has no Foundation.

UBTEB: Advice to the Youths and the Nation.

NR: My Advice to Young Girls is that the most important thing is to believe in yourself, Believe in yourself and know what you want. Because most times our own parents Fail us, I have taught Students here but most of them are doing this for their parents.
Have a Choice and be confident and thats the most important thing.
