St Constantine's International School - Town Campus

St Constantine's International School - Town Campus - is a small school that follows the Cambridge International Primary Program. We are located in the centre of Arusha Town next to Barclay's Bank.

St. Constantine's International School - Town Campus- is one of two campuses. It has Lower Primary classes only, from Nursery to Grade 2. There is a large playground, slides, swings, basketball hoops and football goals for the children to play with and on. The larger Main Campus is a short 15 minutes from the center of Arusha, set in an idyllic 35 acre forest surrounded by the famed Burka Coffee Plantation. The Main Campus has classes from Nursery to A-Level.

St. Constantine's International School

School closure from today , 3.30 pm (17th March)

Dear Parent,

ON BEHALF OF THE SCHOOL MANAGEMENT BOARD AND THE HEADMASTER

As you know we have thought long and hard about what is best for your child’s education in terms of staying open or moving to online learning and activity packs for younger students.

It has become apparent today that the mood and perhaps the argument has swung away from staying open to closing.

Thus, after considerable deliberation we have decided to close SCIS from the end of school today (Tuesday 17th March).

I will send more details, but we have moved Easter around so that we can return to school on 20th April for face to face learning (this allows for a 2-week quarantine by all staff and students and their families following Easter break). The week of the 20th April is important to us for: yr. 6 and 9 checkpoint exams and other assessments (e.g. Languages speaking assessments) and finalising GCSE coursework.

So, please note the following:
Tuesday 17th March – school closes 3.30 pm

School closure days (for staff training and preparation) Wednesday 18th – Friday 20th March

PLEASE NOTE THIS CHANGE: Easter holidays now begin Monday 23rd March to Sunday 5th April (Boarders do NOT return for two more weeks – see below)

Monday 6th April – Friday 17th April ONLINE learning / activity packs – pupils remain at home.

Monday 20th April school reopens for face to face learning (Boarders return Sunday 19th April).

Monday 20th April is a provisional opening date BUT please ensure you check our communications to you (email; Facebook; website) as this date is subject to Government policy on schools and things may have to change. IF schools are not permitted to open on the 20th April we will continue with online learning/ activity packs.

I hope this does not cause you too much disruption and you appreciate that we have made these difficult decisions on the best information we have and for the good of the school community and our pupils’ welfare.

Best wishes,

Tony Macfadyen,
Headmaster

[03/16/20]   Message from the Headmaster!!!

Dear parent,

please remain calm and reasonable in this uncertain time. I will be emailing all parents later this evening, but for now, please note that we are treating the matter of Coronavirus seriously. We have good systems and protocol in place.

Despite the one confirmed Coronavirus case today in Tz. we remain open tomorrow. And to the best of our knowledge the lady did not have any connection with SCIS.

Unless we hear differently from the Tanzanian Authorities we shall have school as usual tomorrow, and your child should attend if they are well. It is important we keep routines and learning going.

I wish you very well.

Please feel free to forward this on to other parents you know.

Thanks a lot,
best wishes,
Tony Macfadyen, Headmaster, SCIS.

[03/16/20]   PARENTS PLEASE READ AND SHARE

Re. Information on coronavirus

Like every other school in the country we are in a completely new situation, but we encourage pupils, staff and families to take a calm, sensible and balanced view to the Coronavirus. It is important for our children to keep school routines going as far as possible.

For now, SCIS remains open and children should come to school tomorrow as normal (Monday 16th March)

We will continue to closely follow any government guidelines as the situation develops. Following medical expertise we remind parents that a normal temperature is 36.5- 37.5 degrees and anything over this should be treated as an indication of possible infection. Please also be alert to dry: persistent coughs as well as aching limbs and breathing difficulties.

If in any doubt, children must be kept at home until fully recovered.

Students and staff should continue to attend school unless they have symptoms of coronavirus infection, in which case they should stay at home and not leave the house for 7 days from when the symptoms started.
The above has been the advice sent out to many private schools throughout the world and we would like to enforce the same at SCIS. Please discourage hand shaking and the same shall be enforced at school.

Please be mindful of any travel plans and for those of you who have recently traveled and returned to Tanzania it is imperative that if you are in any doubt that you have symptoms of the Coronavirus that you remain at home with your child/children. Hygiene and hand washing has been emphasized at school and should be encouraged at home too please.

Please note that we have increased our cleaning regimes at school. Our maintenance and classroom staff have, for one week now, been using anti-bacterial cleaning products on all high touch surfaces, at least twice daily. For younger children regular hand washing is being supervised by our teachers.

We are working closely with Cambridge, our examining centre, so we are fully aware of any decisions and changes they make to the Checkpoint exams and IGCSE / A Levels. As of today there is no new information or changes and things carry on as planned.

We are liaising with various, reputable, online learning centres in preparation for a school closure SHOULD that occur. More information will be provided on this as it is required. We are also in regular communication with other international schools within Tanzania as well as the U.K. to share best practice and get the best outcome in this tricky situation. Homework for any students who show symptoms of coronavirus and need to stay at home will be sent home to you and our teachers will assist you with home learning when necessary. Rest assured, we are rapidly developing suitable contingency plans should we need to implement them.

For now, we will continue to closely monitor the situation and keep you informed of any updated information. PLEASE ensure you keep an eye on our website and your email. We will also be updating our social media sites regularly on this matter so please sign up to them ASAP if you have not already.

Yours sincerely,

Tony Macfadyen
Headmaster
