Sharing a wonderful composition and saxophone resource series done by faculty member, Joshua Hyde. Thank you so much for such a valuable and educational YouTube series.
Resources for composers: writing for saxophone.
One of my projects during isolation was to record 21 videos for composers, to help write for the instrument. Covering many different facets of the instrument, the videos cover:
- The basics
- Split tones
- Quarter tones
- Air sounds
- Jazz vs Classical
- Slap tongue
- Key clicks
- Double tonguing
- Bisbigliando/colour trills
- Trumpet sounds
- Flutter tongue/growl
- Circular breathing
- Singing & playing
- Teeth on reed
I hope they will be some use for you, or your students. Or maybe they'll inspire you to write for saxophone, or to include it in your next piece for ensemble or orchestra!
The videos are available for free on Youtube in this Youtube playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3RDBJurtd-wL-Z6GnDR0QcqCboPOHNwO
