Why Scratch instead of text-based code for young learners?
It prioritises logic over syntax. Instead of getting stuck on missing semicolons or spelling errors, children use physical, colorful blocks to construct conditions, build loops, and track variables step-by-step. ๐งฑ๐งฉ
At our AI Vision Arcade Lab this June, we take this a step further by bridging Scratch with computer vision.
What happens during the workshop?
๐ธ Program a live Face Filter Photobooth
๐พ Code a game controlled entirely by physical body motion
๐ค Teach AI to recognise hand signals and build a custom shooter
Join the Code (Ages 8-12)
๐ Ubi: 2 June / 25 June
๐ Harbourfront: 19 June
โฐ 9:30am โ 3:30pm
๐ NOTE: All AI training happens locally in your browser via Google Teachable Machine. No personal images or biometric data are ever collected, stored, or uploaded! ๐ป๐ก๏ธ

Hi weโre Junior Inventors taking over the Explorer Junior page today to show you how we taught a real AI model to read our hand signals in just 60 seconds! ๐คโก๏ธ
Instead of just playing video games, we used Google Teachable Machine to give our computer its own visual brain, trained the AI code-free (with some oops moments, but a junior inventor never backs down from a software patch! ๐ ๏ธ๐คช), and snapped it together with Scratch blocks to build a gesture-controlled space game.

When kids connect global news to hands-on experiments, real learning happens. Thatโs exactly how our junior rocketeers engineered their own human-powered physics solutions! ๐ง ๐จ
From testing how fins stop wobbling to how nose cones minimise air resistance, our inventors build real structural stability before blast-off. Aerospace engineering, powered by a single puff of air! ๐
What happens during the workshop?
๐ญ Build 3D VR Goggles
๐ Engineer and launch foam rockets
๐ช Build and design planetariums

Leading our kids through trial and error be like... ๐ซฃ๐ ๏ธ
We have all had that moment where we hold our breath and pray for our fingers! ๐
But jokes aside, building independent problem-solvers means giving them the freedom to make mistakes. We provide a highly supervised, safe space where our young explorers can prototype, test, and occasionally fail forward without the stress!
Equipped with the right safety gear (shoutout to those cut-resistant gloves! ๐ฅ) and guided by our patient mentors, our junior inventors learn that a messy trial is just one step closer to a successful launch. ๐โจ
๐ ๏ธ Give your child a safe space to fail forward and build real resilience this June. Comment โJUNEโ below and we will send a direct link to all of our upcoming holiday programmes to your DMs!
No alarms, unlimited Minecraft, andโฆ inventing! โฐ
We asked the children what they are most excited for this June holiday, and the answers did not disappoint. (Honestly, who doesnโt love sleeping in? ๐คซ)
Our labs are fully prepped for them to safely explore everything from training AI models to engineering cardboard arcade machines. Everything is ready for a holiday of inventing! ๐ ๏ธโก

๐ฆ Hereโs how we made our Tabletop Football Game using Cardboard!
Not all cardboard is created equal! The secret behind those wavy lines inside, better known as flutes, is pure structural engineering. โป๏ธ๐
Watch as they learn why Single-Wall cardboard is perfect for flexible moving levers, but high-impact exterior walls require dense, shock-absorbing Double-Wall architecture! They arenโt making guesswork, they are actively figuring out how to apply these distinct layers to their build. By treating everyday materials like industrial assets, they troubleshoot weaknesses and rebuild stronger until their stadium works perfectly! ๐ ๏ธ๐๏ธ
What happens during the workshop?
๐ Build a working Basketball Launcher
โฝ๏ธ Engineer a Tabletop Football game
๐ณ Design a Pinball Machine from scratch

๐ญ Is cardboard just for the recycling bin? Not in our lab!
Cardboard is one of the most underrated engineering materials on the planet! ๐
Our junior inventors donโt just follow manuals, they explore engineering through the Design Thinking process. Watch as they move from prototyping to testing their own arcade games, iterating on their designs until every mechanical part works perfectly! ๐ ๏ธ

Our junior inventors donโt just study the science behind the solar system, they build it from scratch. Watch as they move from messy hands-on activities to testing their own creation! ๐
