After almost nine years as Vice-Chancellor, Kerstin Tham leaves Malmö University 📚✨
After a long and eventful time at the University, colleagues and collaborators said their farewells to Vice-Chancellor Kerstin Tham on Monday, 17 June.
During the ceremony, Kerstin was interviewed by science journalist Lars Mogensen about her university journey. A journey that included all the preparations for becoming a university, the challenges during the corona period and the start-up of the police programme. During the following mingle, the Vice-Chancellor's portrait painted by Johan Falkman was unveiled.
– My greatest wish is that the University culture will continue to develop in the coming years and that academic values will be further cultivated and incorporated, but in a modern and enriching way so that everyone's knowledge is utilised, she says.
We thank Kerstin for her commitment and leadership, which has been crucial to the success of the University. 🙏🎓
Congratulations to the class of 2024! 🤩 🌷

"I have been able to tailor my curriculum to my interests and spend a lot of time abroad."⭐️
Hannah Dahl from Austria chose to study human rights in Malmö because of the programme’s interdisciplinary, international and flexible nature. Through international exchange studies and elective courses, she was able to shape her own academic path.
– I recommend this programme to those interested in studying a highly relevant subject from a multidisciplinary perspective in an international environment. It’s a good fit for those who want to take initiative and responsibility in creating their own academic path. The programme structure is open, and it’s up to you to tailor your degree.
Hannah has spent a lot of time abroad during her education and taken courses in several different subjects such as Mandarin and international economic history.
– Although I’m still undecided about my future career, I can best picture myself in academia, politics, or an international organisation, such as the EU or the UN.

Students in the Master's programme Urban Studies at Malmö University have collaboratively created an exhibition named Svartklubb. 🎼✨
Svartklubb is an exhibition made by students Julie Goodrich and Alice Porsfelt. The exhibition depicts Malmö's underground music scene from the 1990s to today.
"We want to highlight some of the creativity and community that we found when we started talking with people involved in underground music, and emphasize the importance of having thriving spaces in a city for a wide variety of cultural expressions, not just those that are profitable. Visitors can check out quotes and stories from our conversations with scene organizers, as well as a ton of visual artifacts that these organizers have lent us. We’re very excited for people to come take a look", said Julie Goodrich and Alice Porsfelt. 🤩
Tomorrow we commemorate Holocaust Day, one of our professors has researched how Sweden's remembrance of the victims has changed.
While it was primarily the survivors who kept the memory of the dead alive, interest in the graves and memorial sites has increased, and remembering has become a Swedish national concern.
