Having visited European Baltics ( Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia), having crossed these countries upside down by car, we can say, without any doubts, that these countries compared to Russian Baltics (Kaliningrad, Zelenogradsk, Svetlogorsk), look very poor and dirty. 30 years under the European rule literally deteriorate these former rich Soviet Republics to the minority states hard to recommend to visit. Of course, it’s our personal opinion, but the comfort and beauty of Zelenogradsk beats all Jurmala, Palanga and Narva Iisuu resorts. True.

who died under unrevealed circumstances at night from the 27th to 28th of December, 1925, in the Angleterre Hotel in Leningrad. Все, наверное, знают, что Великий Устюг – это родина Деда Мороза. Но почему Великий, и почему Устюг? Великий – потому что роль города велика́ в истории России, а Устюг – это Усть-Юг. Согласно летописям, первое поселение на высокой горе у слияния двух рек — Сухоны и Юга — люди основали в XII веке. Отсюда открывался прекрасный обзор на всю округу, и городище назвали Глядень. Но и неприятностей у первопоселенцев хватало: чудские племена часто нападали на город, да речные воды всё время подмывали берега, так что горожане были вынуждены перебраться на левый берег Сухоны, рядом с устьем Юга. Отсюда и имя нового города — Усть-Юг, то есть Устюг.
Everyone probably knows that Veliky Ustyug is the birthplace of Ded Moroz. But why Great, and why Ustyug? Great - because the role of the city is great in the history of Russia, and Ustyug is Ust-South. According to the chronicles, the first settlement on a high mountain at the confluence of two rivers the Sukhona and the Yug (eng. South) was founded by people in the 12th century. From here, a wonderful view of the entire district opened up, and the settlement was called Glyaden (lit: Watching). But the first settlers also had enough troubles: the Chud tribes often attacked the city, and the river waters washed away the banks all the time, so the townspeople were forced to move to the left bank of the Sukhona, near the mouth of the Yug. Hence the name of the new city - Ust-Yug, that is, Ustyug.

Потом, когда границы сдвинулись и необходимость в обороне отпала, осталась торговая функция — город обеспечивал выход по Сухоне и Северной Двине прямо к Белому морю. Иван Грозный даже ввёл Устюг в число «опричных» городов, дававших деньги на «государев обиход». Как раз тогда Устюг стал Великим. Ustyug from the very beginning was a Russian northern outpost. Then, when the borders shifted and the need for defense disappeared, the trading function remained - the city provided access along the Sukhona and the Northern Dvina directly to the White Sea. Ivan the Terrible even introduced Ustyug to the number of "oprichnina" cities that gave money for the "sovereign's household". Just then Ustyug became Great.
