How cool is this?! The photo that junior Xitlali Rodriguez took as a freshman for Mr. Siggins’ photography class was recreated by his painting students this semester. Today, she was surprised with the finished result! What an incredible moment for SFHS Arts!!

Congratulations to Tina Harris, our vocal and choir director. Mrs. Harris is being recognized as an Outstanding Choral Educator of the Year from CMEA, California Music Educators Association, Capitol Section! We are so proud of Tina, and cannot thank her enough for all that she does for our students and the vocal programs here at SFHS!

Tina Harris is enjoying her 14th year at St. Francis HS as the director of anything “singing”. A Sacramento native, Mrs. Harris received both her B.A in Voice and her Masters in Choral Conducting from CSU Sacramento. She can’t remember a time in her life when she wasn’t involved in music and can honestly say she has sung in or directed some sort of choir every year of her life since the 3rd grade. For the last 20 years, her main focus has been singing in the Sacramento Master Singers, a very fine community choir directed by Dr. Ralph Hughes. She’s been the soprano section leader and assistant director for many of those years. She also has been integral to her church’s music offerings, having sung in and led the Praise Band for almost 12 years. Her time at St. Francis has been some of the most memorable and impactful music-making years of her career and she looks forward to many, many more.

Be sure to congratulate her when you see her in the halls, and we will share information for the awards banquet on Sunday, March 29th at 1:30pm when we have more details!

We're bringing back 'girl' for an encore performance on May 17! In addition to writing the entire one act play, the SF Players created the posters and promotional materials! We'll be sharing more of their awesome creative work leading up to the show - keep an eye out in the coming weeks and don't forget to get your tickets at www.stfrancishs.org/tickets

More about the show: What is it like to be a girl in America? In this dynamic, original one-act, fifty young women unpack this question through text, movement and multimedia. Using an ethnodrama approach, students conducted individual interviews, wrote poetry and shared their real-life stories to uncover their reactions to the challenges adolescent girls face, and the impact the actions of their peers and adults have in their lives. These artists make meaning of their collective experiences and show us the beauty, resilience and strength it takes to be a girl today.

This is written for ages 14 and older.
