Creative Collaborations in Media Arts 2 - 9 JUN 2017

Missão: 180 Creative Camp is an 8 day bootcamp in Portugal that promotes a series of activities under the theme "Creative Collaborations in Media Arts". We invite the international creative community to discover the city, be part of the workshops and meet their international counterparts. The invitation is extended to practitioners of all disciplines including design, architecture, art, music, video, photography, illustration and installation. From 2012 to 2017 the event hosted participants from Barcelona, Los Angels, S.Paulo, Berlin, Madrid, Lisbon, Porto, New York, Bogotá, Santiago do Chile, Firenze, Warsaw, Toronto, London, Caracas, Copenhagen and Amsterdam, and we were also able to invite a selected group of artists Olaf Breuning, Mac DeMarco, Boris Hoppek, Florentijn Hofman, Alex Turvey, Christofer Derek Bruno, INSA, Daniel Brereton, Plastique Fantastique, Penique Productions, Kirsten Lepore, Ella & Pitr, Boa Mistura, Simon Landrein, Sean Dunne and Frank Kalero, to develop projects at 180 Creative Camp. Since 2015 - 2016 the festival receive the EFFE Label as it "stands for artistic quality and has a significant impact on the local, national and international level", being considered a "key event in the redefinition of Portugal's cultural and creative agenda" and "a pioneering key-player in a crossover area (where digital meets mainstream arts) underexploited within the Portuguese scope."

[06/07/19]   Since 2013, Canal180 and the Municipality of Abrantes have been developing a collaboration to produce 180 Creative Camp.
During the last months we've been working on the agenda, projects, activities, tickets, partners, production and communication for this year's edition that would happen from 30th June to 7th July.

We were informed about a cutback from the Municipality of Abrantes and despite all the efforts we've been doing to solve the situation, we are one month prior to the event and without the support of the City Council we have no other option than to cancel this year's 180 Creative Camp on these dates.
We put all our efforts to solve the situation but due to the short notice cutback there was nothing else we could do.

We gathered a super interesting group of artists and participants, tickets were almost sold out and projects were about to start but for extraordinary reasons that go beyond our responsibilities there will be no 180 Creative Camp.

We already informed all invited artists and partners and to minimize the impact of this decision we are refunding all participants.

We are really sorry to communicate this situation as it was also unexpected for us.

💫Throwback Thursday💫
In today's #ThrowbackThursday we remember the work of 44flavours during 180 Creative Camp in 2017. Two minds capturing two other minds. André Martins and Tiago Lemos spent the week in Abrantes following Julio Rölle and Sebastian Bagge, the team behind 44Flavours.
The result is an adventure all over town, unveiling local artists and giving a new life to abandoned places, while getting to know better the true essence of this multimedia duo's colorful art-meets-design-work.

This #ThrowbackThursday is dedicated to Plastique Fantastique, a platform for temporary architecture which samples the performative possibilities of urban environments. Established in Berlin in 1999, Plastique Fantastique has been influenced by the unique circumstances that made the city a laboratory for temporary spaces and has specialised in creating pneumatic installations as alternative, adaptable, low energy spaces for temporary and ephemeral activities.

And that is what they were doing in their workshop at #180CreativeCamp 2015 through the picturesque city of central Portugal, Abrantes.

Olaf Breuning: Testing the Limits of Humor and Aesthetics

💫Throwback Thursday💫
In today's #ThrowbackThursday we went back to 2014. Swiss artist Olaf Breuning came to #180CreativeCamp to taste the limits of humor and aesthetics. In his participation he pushed the boundaries of contemporary art with his sense of irony and idiosyncratic visuals. The idea was to involve a lot of people in one single thing and make them work together to shoot this bright photo representing a simple human need.
Abrantes was once again the perfect setting for a work of art, which Olaf Breuning made us all a part of.

Living together for one week in a small town in the Portuguese countryside, a group of people from all around the globe share experiences and create together, having offline, face-to-face, real connections. Through art, music, and inside jokes participants with origins and backgrounds so different find familiarity and community in an unexpected place. Some of Us Were Looking at the Stars is a story about creativity, the importance of collaboration in arts and the meaning of small cities and offline connections.

I write — a personal take on 180 Creative Camp by Carolina Rodrigues

We met Carolina Rodrigues a few months before the 180 Creative Camp. Carolina shared a fear of "not being creative enough for the 180 Creative Camp". But creativity comes in many forms and shapes! And who to tell you best about it than Carolina herself.

During 180 Creative Camp we have invited Matilde Viegas, a photographer based in Porto, to walk around the streets of Abrantes, get to know the locals, listen and collect their stories and capture them in some beautiful portraits.

“I was lucky enough to have met people in the streets who told me their stories and shared their time with me. When I asked for a portrait, they would stand tall or pose in some other way, facing the camera. They were proud, and I felt grateful.”
