An insightful reading circle on Parveen Shakir’s mesmerizing poetry collection ‘ ماہ تمام ‘ was arranged by UCP Literary Society in collaboration with Adabi Majlis at Takhleeq Basement. The ULS members and willing participants decided to read her poems to everybody present. Her poems spoke to the searching souls, leading them to title her ‘a poet of scent and flowers’ in order to appreciate the beauty of her thinking. However, some critics also thought that it would restrict someone so great of a poet to one idea in a way we would be merely putting a constraint to the depth of her writings. Excited students also joined this circle and enjoyed the beautifully articulated poems of Parveen Shakir. The circle not only went smoothly but it encouraged people to gather for something that was written years before they knew literature and still connected through it.

Interactive Session on “Masculinity vs Femininity”
From the simple concepts about gender equality that revolve around us to the Inessential waves of feminism that are well-known around the globe, the question still lingers: Do we need feminism? Our honorable Guest speakers, Mugeerah Luqman, and Hamas Ashraf, started the discussion by guiding the audience on why feminism emerged and how it has evolved into a socio-political agenda whose values now align with the capitalist interest in today’s market. They unraveled the knot of such an intricate concept that has been made complex over time and made us delve into the insightful cases and talked about how the concept of gender in itself has led people to make decisions in life. They made it more interesting by allowing open discussion that led the curious minds to come to better, more understandable conclusions about femininity and masculinity. After a keen discussion about feminism and its aspects, there was a shared understanding that the gender roles defined by Islam are the simplest and effortless solution to all our masculinity/femininity debates. The seminar also intrigued the participants about the role of justice that would allow us to create a society immune to gender biases. It successfully concluded as a thought-provoking and inspiring event that led the people to participate in the later Questions and Answers session and bring light to different aspects of their reality.
