Word of the day: Refractory period.
The refractory period is a period of time during which a cell is incapable of repeating an action potential.
In terms of action potentials, it refers to the amount of time it takes for an excitable membrane to be ready to respond to a second stimulus once it returns to a resting state.
WHY CANT A NEW ACTION POTENTIAL BE GENERATED IN THIS REFRACTORY PERIOD? Answer: Because all the Sodium Gated Voltage channels are closed so no movement of Sodium ions inside the membrane, thus generating an action potential, is possible in this refractory period and also the potassium voltage gated channels lag (delay) in closing

Liposome and Lysosome, what are they?

Lysosomes are acidic membrane-bound organelles found within cells, usually around 1 micro metre in length. Lysosomes contain numerous hydrolytic enzymes which catalyse hydrolysis reactions.

A liposome is a spherical-shaped vesicle that is composed of one or more phospholipid bilayers, which closely resembles the structure of cell membranes. The ability of liposomes to encapsulate hydrophilic or lipophilic drugs have allowed these vesicles to become useful drug delivery systems.
