Inclusivity and difference
Learning experiences should respect and accommodate differences between learners.
When planning and implementing activities, it is important to acknowledge that each individual is different. Each student needs to be challenged, but the nature of the challenge may vary from student to student. Plan lessons which respect and accommodate the differences between your students. Start from the level the student is currently achieving. Students with disabilities should be provided with appropriate, alternative avenues for achieving their outcomes.

Water Competency
Every child and adult should be equipped with the skills to protect themselves in water by learning and enhancing their basic water safety skills to reduce the risk of drowning and aquatic-related injuries.
The American Association of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends starting swim lessons as early as age 1. You should always speak with your pediatrician before considering any water safety or swimming lessons for children.

Drowning is a tragedy that can happen to anyone. Unfortunately, it is fast, silent, and often not what you would expect, so learning the latest drowning statistics is essential to help advance water safety and drowning prevention efforts.
Drowning is a complex problem, but it is preventable. Prevention starts with awareness, education, and implementation of the latest water safety and drowning prevention efforts, statistics, and resources.
Water safety and drowning prevention is a lifelong endeavor, but it can save a life.
Swim Lessons Save Lives
Learning to swim (water competency) is among the 5 Layers of Protection created by the National Drowning Prevention Alliance. Along with barriers and alarms, adult supervision, life jackets, and emergency preparation, water competency can help keep you, your child, and your community safer by teaching the importance of understanding water safety rules, recognizing potential hazards, and knowing how to respond in emergencies.
It is never too late to learn how to swim either. Many facilities and programs also offer adult learn-to-swim lessons so that you and your children can enjoy the water to the fullest! No one is ever drown-proof, but learning how to swim makes you safer and to have confidence in waters.

How do babies swim underwater?
And we understand that taking your infant swimming from birth can be scary. But now is the greatest moment to start. You might be wondering how my child is able to go underwater without inhaling water. What really happens?
However, your baby is born with a reflex known as the ‘laryngeal reflex’, or ‘gag reflex’. This activates when your baby feels water on their face, nose, or throat. When your infant falls underwater, the soft tissue in the back of their throat (known as the larynx) shuts, blocking the entry to the airway.
And it reaches its pinnacle in the first six months. However, this does not imply that newborns can be submerged without warning. That’s why we start with the cue “1,2,3 Close your mouth” to build up the association with this phrase and going underwater, so that your little one is always in control. We never swim your kid unless we are certain that they are willing to go underwater. If they hiccup, sleep, cry, or appear resistive, they will remain on the surface.
Keeping you babies safe.
The most prevalent causes of drowning are inability to swim and panic in the water. But the good news is that by working together, we can prevent such tragedies from occurring. One of the most wonderful things you can do for your child is teach him or her to swim from the time they are born. Getting them started early means they’ll have confidence around water, so if they fall in, they’ll be able to stay safe and not panic.
After the first six months, the gag reflex begins to disappear, so we educate your infant all about breathing. As our sessions advance, you’ll be impressed at your child’s ability to respond to both spoken and nonverbal clues. Finally, they’ll learn to breathe out while underwater, which we feel offers them true empowerment and a sensation of complete control, progressing to independent little swimmers.

Please DO NOT rely on floatation devices to keep your child safe and gain confidence in the water. Aside from it being a false sense of security, it is also counterproductive as it promotes the wrong posture for swimming and can cause drowning if the child is unattended.

Thank you Sharron for giving us the Million-dollar tour of and providing such a great experience for us. You have been so thoughtful and generous of your time in spite of your busy schedule. It is very evident that you and your team strive to deliver exceptional service and create amazing memories with your clients.
I am grateful for the opportunity to be the one of the first 2 international visitors at your world-class facility to celebrate your 40th anniversary. I sincerely appreciate the hospitality extended to us, including the organized tour of of Tumble Town. I am genuinely enthusiastic about the growth and success of your business.
After visiting the Dolfun Dynamics center in Portland, I returned home brimming with innovative ideas that I’m eager to integrate into our swim curriculum. Training with my team has been incredibly rewarding; not only have we practiced new drills, but everyone actively contributed to refining our lesson plans. The openness to fresh concepts, coupled with hands-on training, brings me immense satisfaction.
Unfortunately, four of our instructors were unable to attend the recent training due to prior commitments and health-related issues.
We immersed ourselves in over four hours of pool training, exploring numerous enhancements to our existing curriculum. However, time constraints meant there were still more ideas we couldn’t yet practice. Our day concluded with a pleasant team lunch at Shakey’s, though four instructors missed out on the day’s activities for the same reason.
I look forward to our next training session, where I hope we can all come together to learn and grow as a team.
