GVES CATCH-UP FRIDAY (February 16, 2024)
In the heart of a bustling classroom, a reading activity unfolds, enveloping learners in the magic of storytelling. The teacher, as the source of knowledge, information, and guidance, sets the stage with a carefully selected piece of literature. As the GVES learners take their seats, excitement hangs in the air, eager to immerse into the world of words. The teacher's voice, rich with expression, breathes life into the characters and scenes, and help the readers explore through their imagination as they listen and read variours literary text.
GVES CATCH-UP FRIDAY (February 2, 2024)
Catch-Up Friday A Window of Opportunity to GVES Pupils
Guadalupe Viejo Elementary School participated in
the simultaneous implementation of Catch-Up
Friday on January 12, 2024.
This initiative was mandated by Memorandum
001 of the Department of Education for the
year 2024, which requires all schools
nationwide to observe Catch Up Fridays
starting January 12, 2024, until the
succeeding Fridays of the school year.
This initiative aims to improve students'
critical thinking skills and general well-being
while addressing the loss in literacy and
numeracy which was an effect of the
pandemic to improve their low reading
competence in all learning areas.
Catch-up Fridays intend to operationalize the
National Reading Program (NRP) in the first part
of the day and to promote Values, Health, and
Peace Education (which includes the Homeroom
Guidance Program) in the second half of the
program.
In addition, the DepEd memorandum is
implemented in Guadalupe Viejo Elementary
School via Read-A-Thon, Project DEAR (Drop
Everything and Read), through an engaging and
interactive reading practices for the young
children to make it an enjoyable and fun
experience for all of them.
Today, as they begin the Catch-up program teachers provided reading story books for
the children to utilize in the Drop Everything and
Read activity, some of the teachers’ device
their own activities intended to the level of the
children they taught. Some children brought a
book in the genre of their choice, giving them
the freedom and enjoyment to read the book on
the topic they are interested in and helping
cultivate their love for reading.
The activity that the children engaged in the catchup is a window of opportunity for them to love
reading, improve themselves and make reading a
habit for a lifetime.
The population of the learners who joined the DEAR
activity was 739 out of 846.
The activity was strictly monitored if it was properly
implemented by the Master Teacher, Mrs. Ofelia
R. Sagum , Principal, Mr. Paulo C. Badua, and the
representative from SDO Makati , Mr. Michael
Mercado, Education Program Supervisor
