[APRIL FOOLS' DAY REMINDER]

🎭 April Fools’ Day is all about fun and laughter, but let’s not forget the importance of being mindful. 🌟

As we enjoy the celebration, let’s be aware that jokes, even if meant to be lighthearted, can have a deeper impact—especially on individuals with disabilities. 💛

Harmful pranks that target someone’s impairment perpetuate stereotypes and contribute to discrimination. Let’s create a space where humor has boundaries, fostering kindness and inclusivity for everyone. 🌈

This April Fools’ Day, let’s celebrate with jokes that unite, not divide. Together, we can make a difference! 🤝✨

As Women's Month ends, the Commission on Disability Inclusion presents to you a 101 on some women-related Filipino Sign Language! 💐

Remember: you are strong and empowered, and no one else can take that away from you!

The CDI team wishes everyone a Happy Women's Month! 🌸🫀

Important Note: The signs featured in this pub utilize the Filipino Sign Language (FSL) manual alphabet, commonly known as fingerspelling. This method involves spelling out words using specific hand shapes for each letter and is typically used when there is no established or widely recognized sign for a word. It is different from standard FSL signs, which represent full words or concepts through distinct gestures.

It’s also important to understand that FSL is not a universal or monolithic language. Just like spoken Filipino, FSL varies depending on the region or community—a sign used in Metro Manila may differ from the one used in Cebu, Davao, or other areas. This is due to regional dialects, cultural context, and community usage, which shape the way signs are formed and understood.

DISCLAIMER: As such, while this pub uses fingerspelling to represent terms like babae, ina, ate, and lola, other signs or gestures may be used in different Deaf communities across the Philippines to convey the same meanings.
