Art is an integral part of society’s identity and preservation of its culture. Through the creative expression of art, the individual is able to strengthen cognitive development and innovative creative thinking that leads to establishment of collective identities as one culture and one community. Moreover, art is significant as it leads to appreciation and acceptance of others’ culture which overall results to cultivation of cultural diversity.

Writing is one of the things that are vital to our daily lives. Our hands create a magical phenomenon by putting our own feelings and experiences into a piece of paper. Writing is full of wonders and surprises.

“Language is the armory of the human mind, and at once contains the trophies of its past and the weapons of its future conquests.”

- Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Language and culture are connected. Language can be learned and can be transmitted culturally. Throughout history, language became a medium of understanding the ancient world. The construction of ethnicity and the reinforcement of social norms were events in the past and the present in which the language plays a significant role. Language can make people comprehend the way people lived in the past, either oral or in written form. Language plays an important role not only in intercultural dialogue but also in building inclusive knowledge societies.

KAYO ANG MGA TUNAY NA LODI.

Today, we celebrate the National Heroes Day to commemorate all the nation’s heroes throughout the history.

PLM UNESCO Club would like to salute all our Filipino heroes who fought for our freedom and to all our modern day heroes who go out of their way for the sake of others.

TRIVIA: National Heroes Day is a regular holiday and is held on the last Monday of every August to mark the anniversary of the 'Cry of Pugad Lawin', the start of the Philippine revolution against the Spanish colonizers.

21/08/2018

Muslims across the world celebrate Eid al-Adha which is also known as the “Feast of Sacrifice.” It is the second of two holidays that are being celebrated by Muslims each year, the other being Eid al-Fitr. The dates of the celebration vary from year to year. The celebration originated from the story of Prophet Ibrahim who showed devotion by his willingness to sacrifice his son to follow the command. During the event, family members may sacrifice an animal in an act known as Qurbani. The animal that is typically sacrificed may be lamb, goat, and cow. The animal is divided into three parts. One third is given to the poor, another one is to be divided among the relatives and the remaining part is for the family. Other ways of celebration include prayers and gift giving.

PLM UNESCO Club would like to greet our Muslim brothers and sisters, Eid Mubarak!

Today we commemorate the 35th Death Anniversary of the former Sen. Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr.

His courage and patriotism served as the key to unlock the chains of the longing sufferings of the Filipinos during Martial Law and paved the way for the People Power Revolution.

Metro Manila suffers from a dearth of public parks, so it’s imperative that we preserve the few that do exist. Arroceros Forest Park is one such haven in the City of Manila. It’s a place of historic, cultural, scientific, and ecological value that is well loved by the city’s residents, who are constantly fighting to keep it from getting turned into a gym or commercial development.

Winner Foundation, Manila Doctors Hospital, and Bahay Tuluyan have drafted a proposal for a local ordinance that will designate Arroceros as a permanent tree park. Under the local ordinance, the city government will be tasked with “appropriating funds for the conservation, protection, and management of Arroceros Tree Park.” The ordinance will also prohibit acts such as “hunting, destroying, [or] disturbing” plants or animals within the park, and will impose penalties on those who violate the park rules.

The petition needs at least 1,000 signatures from registered Manila voters by around August 20, 2018. If you’re from Manila or know people who are, contact Winner Foundation president Chiqui Mabanta at [email protected] to request a copy of the petition, local ordinance proposal, and signature sheets.

PLM UNESCO Club is one with the people in protecting the last lung of Manila. As it is aligned and under the Sustainable Development Goal # 15: Life on Land. In which we have to protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.

Preserving diverse forms of life on land requires targeted efforts to protect, restore and promote the conservation and sustainable use of terrestrial and other ecosystems. Goal 15 focuses specifically on managing forests sustainably, halting and reversing land and natural habitat degradation, successfully combating desertification and stopping biodiversity loss. All these efforts combined aim to ensure that the benefits of land-based ecosystems, including sustainable livelihoods, will be enjoyed for generations to come.

23/05/2018

The PLM UNESCO Club was established with a vision to help build a society where justice, equality, and peace prevails. The ousting of Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno through quo warranto has put a halt towards this vision, particularly for our country.

The ground upon which we stand is built on the millions of Filipinos who fought for our democracy. Once again, our country faces a threat.

We, , stand with the constitution.

Today, we celebrated the International Mother Language Day by creating an exhibit along the PLM catwalk that showcased the rarely used Filipino words and notable pieces of literature created by our very own Filipino writers namely Jose Corazon de Jesus, Francisco Baltazar, Andres Bonifacio and many more. The objective of this project was to promote literacy and the use of the Filipino language.

Happy International Mother Language Day, mga KaUNESCO!

PLM UNESCO Club visited Sitio Bernanda, Brgy. Latag, Nasugbu, Batangas last Dec. 16-17, 2017 to find out firsthand the situation of indigent children who walk for hours in the mountain just to attend school.

With your help KaUNESCO, we were able to give school supplies, toys, food, and love.

The organization will see what more it can do to better the lives of the children in the said community.

Please continue to join and support us in this endeavor.

Thank you.
