๐—Ÿ๐—ข๐—ข๐—ž | The Department of Journalism (DOJ) releases the blended learning schedule for the second semester of A.Y. 2024-2025 today, February 11.

Journalism students from first to fourth year will have a minimum of nine face-to-face sessions, which may be extended up to twelve sessions.

The released schedule has two options: Option 1 for first and second-year students, and Option 2 for third and fourth-year students, both following alternating weeks of onsite and online classes.

The department also issued guidelines for scheduled classes and other important notes that students must observe.

๐—œ๐—–๐—ฌ๐— ๐—œ | The Department of Communication Research (DCR) is now re-accredited on Level III by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP).

The re-accreditation was based on the high-quality instruction, research, extension works, and industry linkages of the department.

This is effective November 1, 2024 until October 31, 2028.

๐—œ๐—–๐—ฌ๐— ๐—œ | Former PUP College of Communication (COC) dean Dr. Hemmady Mora and former journalism chair Prof. Cherry Pebre have been elected to the new set of board of trustees of the Journalism Studies Association of the Philippines (JSAP) Inc. on February 8.

Mora will serve as the new JSAPโ€™s vice president and treasurer, while Pebre will retain her position as secretary, further cementing PUPโ€™s presence in the national conversation of the association.

Meanwhile, University of Santo Tomas (UST) Department of Journalism chair Felipe Salvosa II was elected as JSAPโ€™s new president.

๐—ง๐—œ๐—ก๐—š๐—ก๐—”๐—ก | Nagtapos ang kilos-protesta sa tarangkahan ng Department of Justice (DOJ) sa pahayag ni Deo Montesclaros, isang community journalist mula sa Northern Dispatch at Pinoy Weekly, hinggil sa โ€œterrorism financingโ€ complaint na kanyang natanggap noong Enero 10, 2025.

Ayon sa subpoena na natanggap niya mula sa Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), tinutustusan niya at ng iba niyang kasama umano ang mga armadong grupo sa Cagayan Valley noong 2018.

Isa si Montesclaros sa mga mamamahayag na nag-ulat hinggil sa laban ng mga katutubo ng Nueva Vizcaya, Cagayan Valley kontra sa pagmimina ng isang Australian-Canadian mining firm sa kanilang lupang ninuno.

Pinaugong niya rin ang panawagang pagpapalaya kay Frenchie Mae Cumpio na pitong taon nang nakakulong, pati ang pagbasura sa mga gawa-gawang kasong isinampa sa mga mamamahayag sa bisa ng Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020.

Binigyang-konteksto ni Ramos ang kasalukuyang kalagayan ng sektor ng midya kung saan kaliwaโ€™t kanan ang nararanasang panunupil sa mga mamamahayag tulad ng pagsasampa ng kaso at pagkakakulong dahil sa mga kritikal na ulat.

Giniit niya rin ang mga karanasan ng mga Iskolar ng Bayan sa Politeknikong Unibersidad ng Pilipinas (PUP), partikular ng mga mag-aaral sa COC at kampus-mamamahayag sa loob at labas ng kolehiyo.

Gayundin, pinahapyawan ni Ramos ang nalilimitahang operasyon ng mga kampus pahayagan sa pamantasan dahil sa kakarampot na pondo.

Dagdag niya, dahil sa kawalan ng pondo, hindi nakakapaglimbag ang mga publikasyon ng pisikal na diyaryo upang maibahagi sa mga estudyante.

๐—œ๐—–๐—ฌ๐— ๐—œ | College of Communication (COC) finished first place in the first-ever PUP Intercollegiate Debate Cup on Friday, February 7.

The COC team is composed of debaters Dionel Esteban, Dafney May Buena, and Yubert Ivan Comia from Viva Voce COC.

Meanwhile, the College of Political Science and Public Administration (CPSPA) was hailed as the first champion.

The competition was organized by the PUP House of Parliamentarians.

๐—ฆ๐—ฃ๐—ข๐—ฅ๐—ง๐—ฆ | Despite the proliferating issue of budget shortages affecting student athletes, the PUP Radicals completed the three-peat as they were recognized as the overall champion in the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) Games 2024.

The Radicals dominated the tournament for three consecutive years since 2022.

On a Facebook post, PUP Sentral na Konseho ng Mag-aaral (SKM) gave its flowers to the following teams that competed in the collegiate tournament:

Pribatisasyon sa porma ng NPU Bill ang tugon ng estado sa hinaing ng mga Iskolar ng Bayan na dagdag pondo sana sa Sintang Paaralan. Bukod sa pasakit na maidudulot nito sa mga mag-aaral, nanganganib din na mawalan ng espasyo nang tuluyan ang mga lokal na vendors sa PUP Lagoon dahil dito.

Libre ang tuition sa PUP, ngunit mahal ang bilihin, at may bayad din pagdating sa pagkuha ng mga dokumento. Higit pa rito, may bayad at may renta na rin ang mga venue na ginagamit ng mga mag-aaral at organisasyon kahit na masikip at luma ang mga pasilidad.

Sa kabila ng tahasang pagtutol ng hanay ng mga kabataang Iskolar ng Bayan, inaprubahan ng House of Representatives nitong Lunes, ikatlo ng Pebrero 2025, ang House Bill No. 11341 o ang National Polytechnic University (NPU) Bill sa botong 196-0-3.

Ang hakbang na ito ay malinaw na pagtakas ng estado sa obligasyon nitong bigyan ng libre, aksesable at dekalidad na edukasyon ang mga mag-aaral sa PUP, ito ay sa kabila rin ng malaking tapyas sa mga State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) sa bansa kagaya ni Sinta.

Martes, Pebrero 4, nagkasa ng kilos protesta ang mga Iskolar ng Bayan kasama ang Samahan ng mga Janitorial upang irehistro ang kanilang pagtutol sa NPU Bill.

๐—•๐—ฅ๐—˜๐—”๐—ž๐—œ๐—ก๐—š | The House of Representatives, with 153 garnered votes, has approved the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte today, February 5.

This is yet to be formalized through a plenary later today.

If pushed through, the Senate shall deliberate after the House and should gather 2/3 of the votes, or 16 affirmatives out of the 24 senators, approving the impeachment of the Vice President.

This is a developing story.
