Our brilliant students and dedicated faculty members from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) - College of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment (CADBE) are off to Sardinia, Italy, this coming September for the prestigious "8th International Conference on Conservation on Architectural Heritage (CAH) and Cities' Identity through Arts (CITAA)", to be hosted by the University of Portsmouth and Università degli Studi di Cagliari, and co-hosted by PUP.

This academic engagement which is set to occur from September 17 to 19, 2024 is launched by the International Experts for Research Enrichment and Knowledge Exchange (IEREK).

This team of student researchers from CADBE Research and Innovation Club (CADBE-RIC) and faculty researchers from the college will present their discoveries in Italy to pursue championing sustainable development practices in our cities. Their research also attempts to safeguard historical architecture and other physical manifestations of cultural inheritance linked to the built environment. They also consider its value for current and future generations, equipping the nation with a sound infrastructure.

The study will examine how colonial mentality, brought upon our country's history of colonization, has influenced the development of the Philippines' tourism sector through the creation of "𝘤𝘰𝘱𝘺𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘴" or tourism locations that are designed to mimic foreign places. The results of this study aims to contribute to the development of Philippine tourism in such way that truly reflects Filipino culture and heritage, thus establishing a stronger portrayal of national identity.

The researchers from the College of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment - Research and Innovation Club (CADBE RIC) are currently conducting a study titled "𝗦𝗧𝗨𝗗𝗬𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗣𝗔𝗖𝗢 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗞 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗖𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗬: 𝗔 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗹𝗮’𝘀 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻". This research studies the role of Paco Park and Cemetery in Manila, Philippines, as a model for integrating heritage conservation and preservation into the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) plan of the city. The authors have conducted archival research and analysis of historical documents, and trace the evolution of the park and cemetery, understanding its adaptive reuse and morphology over the years. Moreover, it examines the architectural plan, layout, and components of this heritage site, revealing its potential for disaster mitigation and community resilience.

This strategy addresses the urgent need to ensure the safety of the Islamic communities and visitors who use the structure for religious, social, and cultural activities to conserve and preserve its historical and cultural significance, filling a gap in current disaster risk reduction management strategies.

Sa araw na ito, ating ginugunita ang mga sakripisyo ng ating mga bayani at ang matagal na pakikibaka tungo sa kalayaan. Ito ang panahon upang balikan ang kasaysayan at magbigay pugay sa mga naging daan upang marating natin ang ating kasalukuyang estado ng kalayaan at demokrasya.

Ang kalayaan ay hindi lamang isang estado ng pagiging malaya mula sa pananakop. Ito rin ay ang patuloy na pagsusumikap na mapanatili ang kapayapaan, katarungan, at pagkakapantay-pantay para sa bawat Pilipino. Sa bawat hakbang na ating ginagawa, sana'y lagi nating isapuso ang diwa ng pagkakaisa at bayanihan na siyang naging sandigan ng ating mga ninuno.

Ipagdiwang natin ang ika-126 na anibersaryo ng ating pagiging Pilipino. Magsama-sama tayo sa pag-abot ng ating mga pangarap para sa ating bansa. Alalahanin natin ang kasaysayan, pagyamanin ang ating kultura, at patuloy na magtrabaho para sa isang mas maliwanag na bukas.

Tunghayan ang magiging daloy ng program sa darating na "𝐏𝐀𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐀 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒: 𝐀 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐮𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬", ngayong Sabado, alas nuwebe ng umaga (9:00 AM) hanggang alas tres y medya ng hapon (3:30 PM) sa Bulwagang Balagtas.

Bilang selebrasyon sa buwan ng pamana (Heritage month), inihahandog ng College of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment ang "𝐏𝐀𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐀 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒: 𝐀 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐮𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬". Layunin nitong bigyan ng plataporma ang mga mag-aaral na tuklasin at ibahagi ang kanilang kaalaman patungkol sa pamana ng arkitektura sa ating bansa.

Sama-sama nating tuklasin ang pamana ng arkitekturang Pilipino at mag-silbing inspirasyon sa pagpapa-laganap ng kahalagahan ng preserbasyon ng ating pamanang Arkitektura.

Pagpapakilala sa ating unang pangunahing pandangal, 𝐀𝐫. 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐞𝐥 𝐀𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐨 𝐕. 𝐋𝐢𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠, Isang Trustee sa Museum Foundation of the Philippines. Siya ay dating nagta-trabaho sa UNESCO World Heritage Centre sa Paris at naging parte ng Technical Working Group na sumulat ng Philippine Heritage Charter.

Kasalukuyan siyang nagtuturo ng kurso patungkol sa heritage conservation sa Unibersidad ng Pilipinas, kung saan siya noon nakapagtapos sa Batsilyer ng Agham sa Arkitektura.
