Cadet of the Week
Adrian S. Calingasin
BSCpE
1st Year
Medics
Calingasin joined ROTC out of curiosity, seeking a challenge that would train him for national defense and instill the value of patriotism. Choosing ROTC as his National Service Training Program, he voluntarily embarked on a journey to acquire new skills. His inspiration lies solely in the Philippines, as he is a DOST scholar and aspires to serve his country in the future, repaying the services rendered to him as a future professional. In ROTC, he aims for excellence, hoping that PLM-ROTC will shape his integrity, social responsibility, and academic prowess - the core values of PLM. Witnessing the dedication of PLM "Rajah" ROTC in instilling these values in their cadets, who are the future of the nation, fills him with pride, echoing the words of Rizal. While some dismiss ROTC as a burden and promoter of violence, his curiosity disproves these notions. ROTC, in reality, promotes unity and contributes to community welfare. Excuses hold no weight; instead, he believes in taking responsibility for mistakes and acknowledging efforts. He began as a platoon guide but circumstances led him to step up as the platoon commander. Initially hesitant, he realized that his platoon needed a leader, and he willingly accepted the responsibility. This experience taught him the value of leadership, which he appreciates as a skill necessary for his future.
Guided by his life motto - "A world where evil triumphs depends on the inaction of good men"
Cadet of the Week
Alexa Mae V. Majerano
Bachelor of Arts in Communication
First Year
Journalism
Majerano shared that initially, she wanted to become an officer, but her father wouldn't allow it because she is currently staying in Naic, Cavite, which would make it difficult for her to report to the Plm Headquarters. Secondly, she is seeking thrill and challenge. Thirdly, she wants to learn military rules and discipline. Lastly, she enjoys combat weapons and guns. Her inspiration for joining ROTC is her father, who is a product of ROTC himself. He encouraged her to join ROTC to experience the fun, discipline, training exercises, etc. Majerano's expectations for ROTC included things like leadership development, military skills, and adventure training. She met those expectations, especially in terms of firing. Majerano also made a lot of friends and learned from their life experiences. Despite the punishment for being late, she did her best to arrive at 6:45 am at Plm. She also gained skills and knowledge in basic soldiering, which helped her with personal development and character-building.

Cadet of the Week
Adam James G. Ricafrente
Bachelor of Arts In Communication
First Year
BRAVO 1
Ricafrente chose to join the ROTC program with the primary purpose of refining his critical thinking skills and cultivating a strong sense of discipline within himself. However, his motivation extends far beyond personal growth. Adam's decision to be part of the ROTC stems from his unwavering desire to serve, protect, and make sacrifices for his nation. As a proud Filipino, he feels an innate sense of patriotism and nationalism, fueling his deep care and concern for his country. Moreover, Adam believes that his life's true calling aligns with the military service provided by the ROTC, envisioning himself as a future police officer, dedicated to meeting the needs of his nation by upholding the law and maintaining peace and order.
Throughout his ROTC journey, Adam has gained priceless lessons that have profoundly impacted his character. He has learned the utmost importance of remaining highly vigilant, standing his ground in the face of challenges, and consistently adhering to and implementing the law in his own life. The ROTC has instilled in him a sense of self-discipline and control, empowering him to envision a future filled with remarkable achievements. Beyond that, the ROTC has provided him with a broader perspective, granting him a deep understanding not only of societal dynamics but also global affairs. Adam deeply values his participation in the ROTC and expresses eternal gratitude for the knowledge he has acquired through this transformative experience.
As for Adam's mantra in life, he lives by the belief that "Our Greatest Glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall."
Best of luck C/COL. Gerard Matthew Calangi

Marion Alodia L. Delos Reyes
BS Civil Engineering
1st Year
Admin
Delos Reyes was encouraged by her friends to join ROTC, as they believed it would be an enjoyable experience and would further enhance her self-discipline. Inspired by her grandfather, who had worked under former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., she saw ROTC as an opportunity to contribute to promoting peace, not just within the country, but also within the university. Her initial expectations were to acquire knowledge and develop various skills that would contribute to her personal growth, both physically and emotionally. Additionally, she aimed to provide service and guidance to others, particularly in terms of leadership skills. Fortunately, ROTC has exceeded her expectations.
Currently, Marion is thoroughly enjoying her time in ROTC as she actively socializes with others and adapts to the environment. She expresses gratitude for the respect shown by her seniors towards her unit. Despite not holding the position of platoon leader in her unit, she has still gained valuable knowledge in effective leadership and being a supportive team member. Marion plans to apply this knowledge when her turn comes to assume a leadership role.
Marion's motto in life is "Fall seven times, stand up eight."

In 1912, the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) was established.
The first ROTC unit was born with the establishment of the Department of Military Science and Tactics at the University of the Philippines in July 3, 1922. And it only became mandatory after 13 years when President Manuel Quezon signed Commonwealth Act 1, also known as the National Defense Act of 1935.
It was disbanded and demobilized after the World War II since the country could not afford to keep a large military force without depleting its resources. But later restored in 1967 as a mandatory program by President Ferdinand Marcos, who was a product of ROTC class 1937 with Executive Order 59.
Since the National Service Training Program Act of 2001 was passed, said program was no longer a mandatory but an optional program for the college students.
