Resisting a "ganga" is a bit hard when it comes to avocados🤤🥑

"Una Ganga" is something that is being sold at a very good price, making it a great deal for the buyer.

My favorite avocado is the "mantequilla type avocado" a type that is very creamy, and has a lovely taste to put on top bread!

As a Spanish teacher, I often see one common mistake from English speakers learning Spanish: saying “yo gusto” to express "I like".

and this is a totally understandable mistake!

In Spanish, we don’t say “I like coffee” we say “Coffee is pleasing to me” “Me gusta el café.”

We don't have a direct "I like" but we have a "It pleases me"

And this is why the "yo gusto" doesn't go well when you want to express your likes or dislikes.

Today I am sharing this common idiomatic phrase we use in 🇵🇦

If you’re learning Spanish as a second language, it might take a bit of time before you feel confident using expressions like this.

My goal today is just teaching you how the culture speaks.

In Panamá, we all grew up hearing this phrase:

“Estás cogiendo los mangos bajitos.”

It’s used to describe when someone takes the easiest path, even if it might not bring the best results.

Think of it like:
🥭 “Going for the low-hanging fruit”
🥭 “Taking the easy pickings”

I remember a teacher once saying:
“Luis, estás cogiendo los mangos bajitos, tienes que estudiar más inglés.”

Luis was one of those classmates who was always chill, always at peace, never stressing too much. He wasn’t the most dedicated student, but somehow… he always passed his classes

And well, some of us love picking the low mangoes! 😅

I think is fun to learn how the culture talks!

Probablemente, esta plaza no está en la lista de los “must see” en la Ciudad de Panamá 🇵🇦. Es una plaza muy panameña, donde muchas personas caminan todos los días para ir a trabajar.
Algunos son buhoneros, otros venden comida, artesanías, chucherías o vegetales.

Yo recuerdo esta plaza como un lugar lleno de tiendas de ropa, zapaterías con precios muy bajos, taxis, buses...Y si algún día necesitas reparar un reloj, probablemente aquí encuentras a alguien que lo puede hacer.

Está muy cerca de la Zona Peatonal, otro lugar con mucha historia en Panamá.

Hace unos años pintaron la calle en la Plaza 5 de Mayo. Ahora tiene colores y, a veces, hacen eventos con música en vivo. Creo que se ve más bonita.

Lamentablemente, todavía hay basura en las calles. Como panameña, eso no me hace sentir muy orgullosa.

Últimamente, la policía está más presente en el área. Pero creo que el mejor momento para caminar, comer un raspao y darse un baño de pueblo es durante el día.

El 5 de mayo de 1914 ocurrió un trágico accidente en este lugar.
En la madrugada, explotó una fábrica y depósito llamado El Polvorín. Dentro había muchos armamentos de la policía nacional.

Seis bomberos murieron tratando de controlar el fuego y evitar que se extendiera. Dos años después, el presidente de esa época, Belisario Porras, inauguró un monumento de mármol en honor a estos héroes. Ahora, este lugar se llama Plaza 5 de Mayo.

Literally means, “to shower yourself with the town.” In other words, mingle with the locals or town people.

When the translation doesn’t match your feelings 😅

If you want to say it's too hot in Panama today, be careful how you translate “I’m hot”—it doesn’t work the same way in Spanish!

🔥 Correct ways to say it:
✅ Tengo calor (I feel hot)
✅ Hace calor (It’s hot outside)

But if you say "Estoy caliente", you might be telling someone you have a fever… or something a little too personal. 😳
