Market Movers: 12 July WASDE & Crop Production Reports

Why is the WASDE important

Introduction

Dave Hightower and Virginia McGathery talk about the WASDE & Crop production reports focusing on the Agricultural markets in corn and soybeans. She said that she thinks that things will balance out a little better than they have in the past couple of reports.

The last report they talked about El Nino which gave us a lot of volatility. She thinks we are going to see some selling fatigue. For corn in some areas it’s 20 cents below production cost cause financial problems for farmers all across the country. She suggested doing a spread and to buy 1 SDNC Sept. 350 Corn Put for `5 cents or better and to buy 1 Dec. Futures at 350. For Soybeans she suggest to sell 1 SDNC Sept. 1050 Put at 46 cents and sell 1 soybean Nov. Future 1050.

What is the best way

to trade Commodities?

Technical Analysis is the Best Way to Trade Commodities

In the opinion of myself and many others, technical trading is the best way to trade commodities. I could care less about the news! That’s a bold statement, so let me explain why I say that. By the time you read or hear the news, it’s already happened. You see, you and I are on the bottom of the news chain. If you think otherwise, I’m sorry—you’re wrong!

But there are USDA Reports and Economic reports dates that have a huge swing that day in the markets. This is why I’ve made these calendars available for my students. You need to be aware of these reports dates. You need to know which reports are coming out and which reports can affect the markets. You do NOT want to get caught trading on the wrong side of a report date. We will talk in much more detail about this a little later.

Blips - My Signature Chart Pattern

This is my favorite trading formation. Let me repeat that. This is my favorite trading formation. This is a variation of the two reversal days you just learned about. I look for Blips after a big rally or after a big downtrend. I guess you could say that I’m looking for a major price reversal with a Blip. You can use the Blip to enter a trending market too. I like Blips so much I wrote a course on how to use Blips. I've got students who tell me all the trade are Blips. Personally I use them like a technical indicator.

Right now you can enroll in the ENTIRE Blips course online at no cost! That's right; there is no cost to enroll in the course. No credit card needed; just your name and email address. Click on the button below to enroll right now.

How to Read Commodity Charts

How to Read Commodity Charts

Looking at The Markets: How to Read Commodity Charts:

When looking at how to read commodity charts, there are three “views” for each commodity. We will take a look at each of the following commodity charts views: Monthly / Weekly / Daily / Monthly.

The longest-range view is the monthly chart, which shows the price movement over the last 10 to 30 years. Each vertical line, called a “bar” on this chart, represents one month’s price movement. In other words, the open, high, low and close for the month. The monthly chart is very important to get a long-term view over a period of many years.

The Three Types of Trends

“The Trend Is Your Friend.” What this means is that the price may trend in one direction for a long time. You usually want to trade with the trend. Usually if the long-term trend is down, you want to be short; and if the long-term trend is up, you want to be long.

There Are Three Types of Trends

1. The Major Trend

2. The Minor Trend

3. The Near Term Trend (also called The Current Trend)

The Major Trend. Charles Dow, author of the Dow Theory, said that the major trend lasts a year or longer. However he was referring to stocks when he said this. When looking at a commodities chart, you can shorten that to six months. However, some long-term trends can last for years.

Once you finish this course, I think you will understand why I feel the charts contain almost all the information you need to trade. You will learn to get a “feel....
