Congratulations to Ms Singh and Farah for their amazing pieces today. What a joy to listen to you both in a full room of family, friends, students, judges and officials. We are so proud of you both! Ps. Farah came straight from playing a Hockey game to literally run on stage to read 🥰🥰🥰

A great evening listening to Mark Rocket about his time in Space. Such an inspiring story for us all. Thank you to the Linwood Foundation for this opportunity for the community to hear from an Alumni former Linwood High School student. Thank you also to our wonderful MC - Amy Carter.

Kia ora koutou! Our Aukaha class had an amazing time celebrating Matariki this year, embracing the spirit of reflection, connection, and renewal.
We crafted beautiful lanterns to symbolise the guiding lights of the Matariki stars.
We learned about the story of Tāwhirimātea the god/ guardian of winds and weather, who plays a significant role in the Matariki legend, learning about the significance of the stars in Māori culture.
In the spirit of sharing and community, each student brought a vegetable to contribute to our delicious vegetable soup, representing the harvest and abundance of the season.
We also worked together to make (and fly) a large kite made from toi toi, connecting with the tradition of flying kites to honour the winds and skies during Matariki.
A special highlight was colouring feathers for our unique korowai, a symbol of unity and support, lovingly assembled by Kimberlee with a little help from her whānau.
This taonga has pride of place in our learning space. What a fantastic way to celebrate Matariki together and honour its rich traditions!
Our Story
Linwood College (formerly Linwood High School) has a proud history stretching back over 60 years.
Linwood is particularly well known for its strengths in music and the other performing arts, for providing a well rounded education with many different learning opportunities, for its strong pastoral care of students, and for its national reputation as an innovator in developing and providing new learning programmes for students.
Linwood attracts students from many different walks of life from throughout the eastern side of Christchurch city. Some students travel from seaside suburbs whilst others are located closer to the city centre. A good bus network provides transport to and from school, and enables students to quickly reach the city centre, community facilities or the suburbs.
We are proud to be a diverse school catering for students from different ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. Approximately 37% of students are of European background, 30% identify as Māori, 15% Asian and 10% as Pacific Islanders.
We welcome the increasing number of families who have come to Linwood College as part of the Christchurch rebuild team.
