Kia ora. Please join us in celebrating our wonderful Dragonboat team.
The team arrived at school before 8am and we got to Lake Rua, got our tent up and had a great time with all the schools dancing for a warm up
The first race was the 1km turns race - up and back twice. There were 8 teams in our division. We started out at the front of our flight and stayed there so just had to wait for the times from the other teams to find out where we were placed. We placed 3rd and got a medal.
We had a 500m heat which was a bit wobbly, but we regathered and won the Plate final - getting 4th overall. Interestingly, our final time was 4 seconds faster than the 3rd place getters, but we were not in the Cup final, so missed out on a medal.
We then had the 200m heats x2 and we made it into the 200m Cup final and we came 3rd to get another medal!

Fantastic effort by the team

Looking forward to growing the sport in Term 4.

Hunter Charlett has been busy over the weekend competing in the Oceania Junior Superbike Cup.

He competed in 3 different races at Sydney Motorsport Park, finishing 4th, 2nd and 1st in his final race. This places him 2nd overall in the Oceania Junior Cup!

This makes Hunter the best rider in New Zealand for his event.

Canterbury Regional Debating took place last weekend.
Our team Papanui Phoenix: Anuki Mahandiram-Gedara, Holly Haffenden, and Elisabeth Cox came out with two wins. Elisabeth was also awarded a highly commended speaker prize.
Our other team Papanui Pals: AJ Rutherford, Mark Zhang, and Arch Lyell came out with one win.
This was a major success as it was Mark, AJ, Arch, and Holly's first-ever debating competition. Debating is rather new here at Papanui High School and I am impressed with the student's dedication. We are going to ace it next year. Kia pai tō mahi.

Do you have a child sitting NCEA this year or next? Are you feeling confused or just want to know more about how NCEA works?

We'd love to see you there! 👋

Congratulations to our Senior Girls Futsal team who competed in the Christchurch Secondary Schools tournament over the weekend. Facing an unbeaten St Andrew’s College in the final, Papanui High School were down 2-0 at halftime. In a thrilling second half, the girls showed plenty of determination to fight back to a 2-2 scoreline at the full-time whistle, only to be cruelly defeated in the penalty shootout.

The team heads to Wellington next week to compete in the National Secondary School Championships. We wish them every success.

Team: Heilee Amonelo, Hannah Cantrick, Jemma Creed, Emily Jones, Natalie Lattimore, Amy McCutcheon, Gina McCutcheon, Aurora Pohio, Ruby Thurlow, Dorothy Yek.
Coaches: Ms Gibbs & Ms Deacon.
