Year 8 Stream Science Trips

Our Year 8 classes have been working on a citizen science project with Dr Issie Barrett from the University of Canterbury. We are collecting data on Ilam stream, where it runs between the University and Ilam School.

We have been learning about waterways and how to test for clarity, pH, nitrates and making careful observations. We have also been monitoring the freshwater macroinvertebrates (bugs) that are living in the stream. We can tell how polluted or clean the water is by what kinds of bugs we find living there.

Some scientists from the University of Canterbury have been joining us on our trips and working alongside us. It has been great to get to know 'real' scientists and to be involved in 'real' science.

Year 8 Wellington camp

Our Year 8 students are having an amazing time in Wellington this year.

Some of the activities include Te Papa, Wellington Museum, Capital E, Parliament, National Library, Space Place, Police Museum, War Memorial and Zealandia.

They also experienced travelling by aeroplane, ferry and train. What a great learning experience!

This week, Kirkwood Intermediate School transformed into a hive of activity as our students participated in various athletics events, showcasing their skills and school spirit. It was truly heartwarming to see our young athletes representing Kirkwood proudly, fostering a sense of community and teamwork.

We currently have places available for in zone and out of zone Year 7 students to attend Kirkwood Intermediate School in 2025.

Athletics Day 1 (Wednesday 16 October) Reminder

We are running the bulk of our events.

Students can be in full house colours.

There will also be prizes for best dressed individuals and groups. Appropriate footwear will need to be worn (closed toe shoes/sports shoes compulsory).

The PTA will be there all day buzzing around supporting our teachers, handing out ice blocks and rewards. Come along and support them - all welcome.

2025 Enrolments

We are accepting 2025 enrolment applications until 31 August 2024.

Enrolment applications will be subject to being in-zone or by winning a place through our out-of-zone applications.

Out-of-zone enrolment applications are certainly welcome. We envisage accepting the majority of out-of-zone enrolments so please do not be put off applying. The Board have determined that 140 Year 7 and 15 Year 8 places are likely to be available for out-of-zone students for 2025.

Winter Tournament for Monday 19 August

Rugby Sevens and Football have been cancelled for today due to ground conditions.

Netball, Basketball, Table Tennis and Volleyball are still on.

Our Year 7 students went to Mt Hutt today, there was plenty of snow up there!

All outdoor winter sport has been cancelled today (Tuesday 30 July) due to ground conditions. Table Tennis will still be played.
