Year 8 Farewell Hāngī

Our students really enjoyed being involved in the Hāngī which was held last week as part of our Year 8 student farewell. It was such a good cultural experience and involved a lot of preparation and planning!

It was also great to see our Kapa Haka perform.

All the best for those competing!

We ask that parents make alternate arrangements for their children from 1:00pm this Wednesday 31 May as the NZEI ( the primary teachers union) and the Ministry of Education have been negotiating an updated offer for our classroom teachers and they have declared a Paid Union Meeting on Wednesday.

It would be very much appreciated if you could make alternate arrangements for your children on Wednesday.

The bus company has arranged to provide an earlier service home on this day (1:15pm pick up). If this does not work for your child then please make alternative arrangements.

The PTA - Friends of the School meeting will still be held in the staffroom at 6:00pm on Wednesday.

We understand that this may be challenging, but we are hopeful that this may result in an end to further industrial action.

As always, thank you for your understanding and support.

Money raised will be donated to the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand.

Technology Education at Kirkwood Intermediate School

Our students have been learning great skills in our Kirkwood Intermediate School Technology Centre.

Technology education at Kirkwood presents students with a range of creative learning experiences in different areas: Foods, Electronics and Hard Materials (metal, wood, fabric and plastic).

Last week some of our students were working on making pencil cases and 'scene in a bottle' which involves circuits and wood for the base.

Technology is often a favourite area for many students because a 'hands on' approach is an enjoyable way to learn.
