🌈🎈 Coloured Ball Sorting Fun for our Nestle Children! 🎉👶
We had an absolute blast in Nestle Room as our delightful under 2-year-old children enjoyed a fantastic activity of putting coloured balls through coloured pipes. 🌈🎈
Not only did this activity bring immense joy and excitement, but it also offered valuable learning opportunities. By sorting the balls according to their colours, our little ones enhanced their cognitive skills and developed a deeper understanding of colour recognition. 🧠💡
We are thrilled to witness the growth and development of our youngest learners as they engage in such enriching activities. Stay tuned for more fun-filled learning adventures at Cuddles!

🌟 Importance of Knowing Our Emotions: Exploring Emotional Shapes with Children! 🌈
👋 Let's take a moment to talk about the incredible importance of understanding and embracing our emotions. 🎭
Emotions are a fundamental part of being human, and they play a significant role in shaping our experiences and relationships. When we learn to recognise and express our feelings, we gain valuable insights into ourselves and those around us. 🤗😢😡
Today, I want to share something truly fascinating and inspiring: the concept of "emotional shapes" that children are exploring! 🧒👧🌼
Just like colours, emotions can be represented by various shapes and patterns. By introducing children to these emotional shapes, we empower them to better understand and navigate their feelings in a fun and engaging way. 🎨
Imagine a rectangle representing sleepy, a circle symbolising happiness, a triangle standing for sadness, or a square embodying angry. Through this creative exploration, children can learn to identify and communicate their emotions effectively. 😊🙌
Encouraging children to express themselves through emotional shapes also fosters empathy and understanding among peers. When they recognise the shapes of others' emotions, they become more attuned to the needs and experiences of those around them. 🤝❤️
Remember, it's never too late to start exploring our own emotional shapes! Let's engage in conversations about our feelings, seek support when needed, and create a safe and nurturing environment for emotional growth. Together, we can build a more emotionally resilient world. 🌍❤️
🌊🐚 Exploring Tangaroa, the Maori God of the Sea! 🌊🐚
Today, the Nestle children embarked on a fascinating journey as they delved into the realm of Tangaroa, the Maori god of the sea! 🌊🌟
With the guidance of our wonderful student teacher, they were treated to an enchanting ice experience adorned with beautiful seashells. ❄️🐚
As they touched, listened, and observed the icy textures and delicate shells, their senses came alive. This sensory exploration allowed them to deepen their understanding of the sea and its wonders. 🧠🔍
We're thrilled to witness their curiosity and knowledge flourish as they connect with the rich culture and natural world around them. 🌺💙
📚🎉 Exciting Update from our Little Learners in the Cuddles Room! 🎉📚
🖍️🔠 This week, our talented and enthusiastic Cuddles Room children have been on a fantastic adventure with the letter "C"! They've been honing their writing skills and embracing the joy of learning through creativity. 🌟
🎨 Armed with a black marker and an eagerness to explore, they took to the whiteboard to practice their letter "C" strokes. The classroom was abuzz with laughter and excitement as they crafted their way to letter mastery! 🖌️
✨💡 We couldn't be prouder of our budding writers, who demonstrated incredible focus and determination. Their commitment to improving their skills is truly inspiring! 💪🌟
📚💬 Let's give a big shout-out to these amazing children for their hard work and dedication. Keep up the great work, little ones! 👏🎉
In the Snuggles room, we support the tamariki to gain the confidence to effectively communicate with others. This supports tamariki to develop whanaungatanga and tuakana-teina as they navigate our shared space. One way we support communication is through the mode of art. 🎨 It is a great way to encourage creative expression and refine working theories as they become explorers. Today, we used shaving foam, paint, and animals to learn more about footprints. 🦶🖌️ The tamariki have been intrigued by the footprints their own shoes leave behind when they walk through puddles. ☔ One child noted, "Big" as they carefully placed the animal on the paper, leaving behind a trail of big footprints. 🐾 The tamariki then led their learning as they began creating the animal homes/habitats. 🏡 They were so proud of their mahi - work as they shared their creations with others. 🌟
🌈🖌️ Sensory Exploration at its Finest! 🧒👶
Our little ones in the Nestle Room had an extraordinary adventure as they dived into the world of textures through the magic of texture ball painting! 🎨🔍
Watching their tiny hands explore the squishy, bumpy, and smooth surfaces was pure joy. Their giggles and wide-eyed wonderment melted our hearts. 💕
Through this creative activity, they discovered new sensations, colours, and patterns, stimulating their senses and fostering their cognitive development. 🌟
We're thrilled to witness their growth and excited to continue nurturing their curiosity in every way possible! 🌺🌱
🔴🟠🔵 Shape Matching Fun in Samoan Style! 🌺🌴
Our little ones in the Nestle Room are still completely captivated by the Shape Matching Game we introduced last week, Samoan Language Week! 🎉🧩
As they explore the vibrant colours and distinct shapes, they're not only having a blast, but also gaining invaluable knowledge. Learning about shapes at such a young age lays a solid foundation for their cognitive development. 🔍✨
By engaging in this activity, they're enhancing their problem-solving skills, hand-eye coordination, and spatial awareness. 🧠👀
We're delighted to see their excitement grow and their minds expand with each successful match. Here's to many more joyful learning adventures! 🌈💫
🌟 A heartfelt shout-out to Merrin School! 🌟
I want to extend a massive thank you to Lisa Dillon-Roberts, the amazing principal of Merrin School. Today, we were pleasantly surprised with a delightful morning tea snack and a note that read, "A big thank-you" for our dedicated work with the children. 🙌🏼

To all the incredible staff at Merrin School, let's continue making a positive impact on the lives of our wonderful students! 🎉

The Cuddles Team
The children's observation and exploration of the worm provide an opportunity for learning in several areas, including science, language, and social-emotional development.
In terms of science, the children can learn about the characteristics of the worm, such as its movement, shape, and texture. They can also learn about its habitat and diet, and how it contributes to the ecosystem.
The children's observation of the worm can also support language development, as they communicate with each other to describe what they see, ask questions, and share their thoughts and feelings.
In terms of social-emotional development, the children's collaboration and communication while observing the worm can help develop their social skills, including turn-taking, sharing, and empathy for living things. They can also develop a sense of wonder and curiosity about the natural world.
Would you like to know a secret?
The teachers at Cuddles are extremely scared of worms, please don’t tell anyone, pinky promise!

Today our Cuddles room went for a community outting to the in Avonhead and enjoyed a fluffy and a marshmallow as well as a wee play! This was followed by a trip to the park where we sat in nature together and enjoyed our afternoon kai, made daisy chains, and laughed and played until our hearts were content 🏼
We hope you all have a lovely and safe long weekend with your whānau and friends 🤍
Cuddles Royal Tea Party ☕️👑
Today we spent the day in the Cuddles room (3.5 - 5 years) celebrating Her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth and her 70 years as the Queen of England, and her 96 years earth side 🌿
To celebrate, we had a ✨Royal Tea Party✨ where we dressed up in our favourite frocks and outfits, we had scones, made crowns, played Kings and Queens, coloured in the Queen and her beloved Corgi’s and we shared tales about the Queen and shared facts together.
A fun fact, 96% of the worlds population has only experienced Queen Elizabeth’s reign! Meaning only 4% of the worlds population experienced King George VI!
Many thanks to everyone for such enthusiasm and support for our day of celebrating and sharing memories with the kaiako and the children 👑🤍
Our philosophy is deeply embedded with our belief that children benefit from mindful practices so they can develop strong resilience, greater empathy, emotional regulation and reduced anxiety and stress. 🥰 This particular exercise is a great way of grounding ourselves and clearing our minds. 😇
Five senses exercise: All you need to do is notice something you’re experiencing with each of the five senses.
Follow this order:
Notice five things you can see.
Look around you and bring your attention to five things you can see. Pick something you don’t normally notice, like a shadow or small crack in the concrete.
Notice four things you can feel.
Bring awareness to four things you are currently feeling, like the texture of your pants, the feeling of the breeze on your skin, or the smooth surface of a table you’re resting your hands on.
Notice three things you can hear.
Take a moment to listen and note three things you hear in the background. This can be the chirp of a bird, the hum of the refrigerator, or the faint sounds of traffic from a nearby road.
Notice two things you can smell.
Bring your awareness to smells that you usually filter out, whether they’re pleasant or unpleasant. Perhaps the breeze is carrying a whiff of pine trees if you’re outside, or the smell of cookies baking in the oven.
Notice one thing you can taste.
Focus on one thing you can taste right now, at this moment. You can take a sip of a drink or eat something, notice the current taste in your mouth, or even open your mouth to search the air for a taste.
This easy exercise can bring your child to a mindful state quickly.
Extending on children's interests!
We currently have a big interest in Bugs 🪱🐝🕸 here at Cuddles Early Learning Centre which supports our motto 'where mindfulness is nurtured' as we help our children to develop an understanding of respect and kindness towards the living world that surrounds us. We have been inquiring and investigating different bugs that we come across and using this curiosity to express our ideas in a variety of ways.
"Extending children’s learning is about so much more than facts. It covers wellbeing, identity, connection and contribution to the world and being a learner. Extending learning encompasses areas such as leadership skills, independence, negotiating, teamwork and the ability to work with others. In other words, it includes learning dispositions" - Anne Stonehouse

Children Who Bite
Here's some late-night reading for you, should you be interested 😀
Curious as to why your toddler might've recently started using their teeth to communicate frustration, anger or even excitement?
Here's a great blog post as to why toddlers might bite!
"Most biting occurs in children between the ages of one-and-a-half and three years old. Its occurrence reflects not only the children’s feelings but also their ability to use expressive language"
Children Who Bite Biting is a very emotional topic for the parents of toddlers and preschoolers. We tend to look at a child who bites with more disdain and perhaps more fear than a child the same age who kicks or hits. There is something wild and animal-like in a bite that makes it particularly upsetting, even if the...

Painting allows tamariki to express themselves and be creative by exploring various colours and textures of paint.
Tamariki will paint what they know and feel rather than what they see, thus it is critical that adults allow kids to express themselves freely.
Painting supports tamariki tas they develop and strengthen hand-eye coordination, and develop fine motor skills such as finger and hand muscles. Painting may be messy but it is the beginning of the development of writing skills, so it is a perfect activity to support future learning when tamariki reach their schooling years.
As adults, we can support tamariki by keeping the painting area tidy and clean so they can start fresh on their artwork, naming and dating their work to show the value in their art and treating it
with respect. It's a great idea to talk to your tamariki about their work without guessing what it might be - this is when open-ended questions are significant because it gives your tamariki the chance to tell the story of their artwork.
As Picasso once said, "Every child is an artist" 😌
