This year’s theme for is Fakatumau kae fakaakoi tau ‘gana ke mautu a iloga o ‘ta tuā
A reminder to all who identify as Tuvaluan to ‘preserve’, ‘embrace’ and ‘safeguard’ their language.

‘Preserving’ the Tuvalu language is a call to action to maintain the vibrant language. To ‘embrace’ Tuvalu language is to cherish its value. To ‘safeguard’ the language means that it is protected to ensure it can be used for generations. The Tuvalu ‘heritage identities’ are about the important ancestral heirlooms, and culture, which can be passed on through the language.

We deliver education to adults in Ōtautahi - along with a host of other organisations some of whom we collaborate with. We all have a slightly different focus and our programmes appeal to a range of adult learners and their varied life ambitions.

Last week was a chance for many of them to talk about the 'why' that brought them to enrol in community classes. Remember thousands of adults take part in adult education each year!

Photos from Literacy Aotearoa's post 10/09/2023

This past week the 2023 Festival of Adult Learning Ahurei Ākonga celebrated adult learning:

We acknowledge the 70 000 adult learners that take up the challenge of continued learning as an adult each year and thank them for their mahi, courage and dedication to self-improvement.

We acknowledge all the educators that have delivered potentially often life-changing education to adults across communities at community centres, marae, libraries and other learning spaces.

Literacy Aotearoa offers free education programmes to around 6000 adults each year. In Aotearoa, it is estimated ¼ of adults struggle with a literacy or numeracy challenge daily.

We believe that, at any age, new skills and knowledge can transform and empower people by giving them the freedom to take charge of their future and chase their dreams.

Talk to your local team about free education programmes coming up in Term 4 in Whiringa ā nuku (October).
