I got married at 25, finished my PhD at 27 and became a Professor at 40.

So fast you see! Yes, everything around me worked fast. It is now that I realise that it was a misplaced priority.

My ambition blindfolded me and I got it all wrong, that is why I am sharing my experience through this medium to warn and encourage our young mothers not to be careless as I was back then.

I worked very hard as a lecturer and as an administrator, always so busy that it became my language to my children...."I'm busy"

My mum was around to nurse the children for me for some time. The moment they clocked ten, I sent them to boarding schools, though my husband was not in support of this. I always found my way.

I had no warm relationship with my children, 2 boys and a girl.

I never knew it was a bad idea not to have time for my husband, children and the household, until 5 years ago, when guilt, loneliness and restlessness filled my heart.

I sent for my children to rejoice with me on my 60th birthday.

The two boys, living in Canada said they are "busy" and that their sister will come down from South Africa.

Two days to my birthday, my daughter sent this message to me, "Mum, I am very sorry not to be around over there, there is no time to squeeze out, my husband needs my attention at his newly established clinic and presently, I'm pregnant. "I'm very very busy,
I'm also lonely in a strange land. Please pray for us mum. Happy birthday". I could not recover from the meaning I got from the message.. "First-things-First". When they needed me for warmth and discussion, I was not available, now I needed them for warmth and discussion I could not get them, rather they returned my slogan back to me, "I'm busy"

To worsen the matter, my dear husband died in his sleep a month after. ...Only one of the children came without his family to the burial ceremony.

I was dumbfounded!!! Considered Opinion: it is good to work and be a hard working fellow.
But hear this important and salient truth:

STOP RAISING AN OVERDEPENDENT GENERATION!
MOST PARENTS OF TODAY ARE RAISING AN "OVERDEPENDENT GENERATION"

1. You cook their food for them so that they can read and enjoy.

2. You help them to wash their clothes and tidy their rooms.

3. You drop them off in school every day by yourself!

4. You lie on their behalf to get them out of trouble.

5. You arrange "expo" to help them pass their exams.

6. You protect them from every danger and difficulties.

7. You prevent them from any form of pain and suffering.

8. You don't want them to suffer like you did as a child.

9. You hustle around while they watch films and play games.

10. They can't go out alone because you're always scared.

11. You take every decision for them, because you're wiser.

12. You go to their schools to fight for them and prove rights.

13. You defend them even when they're wrong and at fault.

14. You can not stand seeing them starve or go hungry for once.

15. You fight against those who try to correct them.

*I PITY YOU*

....YOU ARE BUSY RAISING AN OVER- DEPENDENT GENERATION !!!

You think you are showing them LOVE ?

*SORRY, YOU'RE WRONG* !!!!

By the time you're no longer there and they face real life challenges, they will become helpless !!!

At that stage, they will realise the havoc you have done to them and CURSE YOU !!!

*STOP RAISING AN OVER-DEPENDENT GENERATION !!!*

Allow these children to face realities of life !!!

Be careful !!!

*Raising Responsible Children*
1. Give your children age-appropriate domestic tasks, even if you have a thousand and one domestic servants at home. It is sheer ignorance to think that doing everything for your children is a mark of honour or a way of bequeathing royalty on them.

2. Teach them to be useful and make their impact felt positively wherever they are found – in the school, place of worship, in another person’s home, etc.

3. Encourage your children to always leave a good impression wherever they go to;teach them to be courteous, respectful

This water bottle at the provision shop is N200.
The same bottle at a hotel is N400,
At the airport is N500
And at some higher hotels is N1,500

Same bottle,
same brand,
the only thing that changes is the place.
Each place gives a different value to the same item...

When you feel worthless, change places,
don't stay there.
Have the courage to change your circle of influence and go to a place that sees your value.

Surround yourself with people who appreciate your worth.”...

Never settle for less

When you meet an old friend after many years,

Don't ask questions like
Are you married?🙄
Do you have kids now?🙄
Where are you working now?🙄
Don't ask sensitive questions.
A lot of people are going through a lot
Just gist without delving into personal talks unless the person brings it up.

Also don't brag about what you have and who you are.

Be reasonable
Be thoughtful
Be kind
Be gentle

Cont'd
NEVER EVER run color again!!!

10. To clean a stained thermos fill it with warm water mixed with 1/4cup vinegar, add some uncooked rice, close, shake well, rinse well and let it air dry. You can alternatively soak it in a detergent like omo.

11. To clean a stained electric kettle boil water with a pinch of citric acid in it.

12. To prevent a candle from melting so fast, sprinkle a pinch of salt over it.

13. If you put too much salt in your food add a raw potato or two in it and let it cook for a while, it absorbs the salt. You can then throw the potato away.

14. When boiling beans put a full carrot inside, it helps reduce gas. After the beans have boiled throw the carrot away.

15. If u have itchy athletes foot apply toothpaste overnight for a few days, and the problem will be solved.

16. To clean stained and dirty tiles buy a solution called " cerrazo" available in supermarkets or hardware. It does wonders.

17. For colicky babies boil a tablespoon of cinnamon with 1 cup of water ,let it boil then store the concoction. Every time the baby is over whelmed, warm the concoction the give baby 5ml, works like a charm!!!

18. For dandruff, apply freshly squeezed lemon juice on scalp wait for at least 30minutes then squeeze 1 more lemon and mix in warm water then use the solution to rinse the hair and scalp. Apply your usual hair oil the next day.

19. Dawa ya mende (cockroaches), dawa ya mende !! Mix bicarbonate soda with sugar and hide in all the places where mendes hide .NB: Ensure there is not a single drop of water anywhere accessible. You will never have mende ever!

20. Kuuua panya (rats)...Take cement and mix it with food e.g. flour. Make sure there is no water accessible to the rats.

21. If your rice burnt while cooking, put a slice of white bread cover it for 2 minutes then remove and throw away the bread. The rice will not taste burnt. NB: Bread really works but of course make sure you do not touch the burnt bit when putting the rice.

KITCHEN TIPS AND TRICKS

1. When you garment is stained by biro ink, use white colgate paste or surgical spirit to clear the stain.

2. When iron box is black stained.(kuungua) rub broken chalk or crushed panadol when the iron box is hot to get rid of the black stains.

3. Hydrogen peroxide has many uses :

· First aid for cuts-it stops the bleeding.

· For septic wounds-it helps stem the infection.

· Mouthwash-mix it with water and you have an antibacterial mouthwash.

· Bleach for whites.

4. Boil lemons and put the water in the fridge to remove the food smell. Putting charcoal on the fridge will also absorb the smell too.

5. Baking soda

· Gets the grime of tiles- scrub sink/tiles with a baking soda and vinegar paste.

· It is also a face scrub (mix with water and scrub (very good for oily skin).

· It also removes burnt food on pans (soak the pan in a baking soda and water mix for about 15 minutes and the food will come off easily.

· For acid reflux-mix a pinch of baking soda with water and drink.

· If you have run out of toothpaste u could use baking soda paste to clean your teeth

6. If your clothes get stained by chewing gum, rub ice cube on the stained part and it will peel off. Another remedy is pouring paraffin on the gum and it will come off, then wash the cloth.

7. If your clothes get candle wax , cover garment with a newspaper and iron the wax over the newspaper, the wax melts and the newspaper absorbs it. You can also put the garment inside the freezer. The candle wax will freeze and break off.

8. Microwave cleaner-place a glass bowl filled with a solution of 1/4 cup vinegar in 1 cup water inside, and zap the mixture for five minutes on the highest setting. Once the bowl cools, dip a cloth or sponge into the liquid and use it to wipe away stains and splatters on the interior.

9. If you want to stop a garment from bleeding color, put some white vinegar in the rinse water. The garment will NEVER and I mean NEVER EVER run

For the past two weeks, I stopped tipping the handymen who work for me and some of the sales guys I buy things from.

Now I walk past security guards who used to throw salutes and smile to their ears when they see me and they feign ignorance of my presence.

The doormen no longer open the doors with loud greetings but grudgingly as if to subtly let me know that I owe them.

The ladies who used to fight among themselves for the opportunity to serve me at my favorite restaurant now pretend not to see me when I walk in.

The guards at my estate gate who don’t use to search the trunk of my car, now not only do so but insist that I wane down the four glasses of my windows.

Even my Gardner, he would appear and water some pot of flowers and then send a list of his family problems. He only comes around when he needs money. The last time, I didn’t have money to give him and I never saw him again.

Even the vulcanizer that I give 1k, 2k, or 3k every time he corrects my tyre pressures, this morning, I didn’t have any cash to pay him, he kept me waiting for over 20 minutes just because of N200.

When I study the behavior of people, it intrigues me. This is why I pay very keen attention to studying them. It’s something so strange yet so unbelievably fascinating and ridiculous.

What’s most intriguing, however, is how people, mostly those at the lower echelons of society, value only money and not the most important thing which is relationships. A terrible mindset. Such a sad shortsightedness.

This is true too for some friends and family members. They love you because your ni***es are available for their milk. Once it dries up, you become another market square topic.

Their loyalty is for sale.
Their love is for the highest bidder.
Their beliefs are for the things that bring them the most glaring hope.

It’s funny, yet, so true.
