Minischool was a fresh, fun, inspirational & educational preschool offered to 3 to 5 year old childr

**Sadly closed indefinitely due to Australian government changes & regulations on Norfolk Island **
Our preschool offered early educational experiences and a school readiness program to bring out the best in your children for 8 years on the island. Operating for 50 weeks a year we offered preschool vacation care places to visitors to the island. We also provided a free minibus pick up service from the school. Qualified and inspirational staff made each preschool day a special one.

Hey kids.
Good way to showcase beautiful Norfolk Island.

ABC’s Play School are looking for video submissions featuring children from every state in Australia to appear in our “Through the Windows” segment as part of our upcoming Play School series themed “My Place, My Home”.

The series showcases the amazing variety of places Australian children call home! Whether you live in a city, coastal town, the outback, an island or the country; we’d love to feature it!

If your child (or a child you know) would be perfect then head over to https://www.abc.net.au/abckids for more information!

David Graham made a wonderful contribution to ABC Kids classics for many years.

David, the voice of Grandpa Pig and Wise Old Elf, has brought so much laughter and joy, and touched the hearts of millions of families across the world with his incredible talent.

Forever jumping in muddy puddles. May he rest in peace.

I’m such a sook! I just saw the ad for this book adaptation after Bluey and Pringle burst into tears. How beautiful to see my first play school heroine Benita Collings acting out this beautiful book.
I can’t wait to see this… I will probably cry more.

Update: Just to be clear, I don’t interpret this quote as being about praise. Young children “feel good” about themselves not because of an adult’s praise but in a loving, caring, safe space where they are free to express themselves, be heard, and lead their own play.

Update Update: Just a reminder that this fb page is intended for early childhood professionals. For our context, our own childhood experiences are not as relevant to our practice as current research and theory. Praise - and its harms - is a topic we study in order to best serve young children in a group care setting.

For those lay people responding to this post, rather than just disagreeing, I invite you to get curious about the topic and educate yourselves further.

For ECE professionals, how do you “make a kid feel good about themself”? (I cringe at the word “make” and the oversimplification of “feel good” but I appreciate Derengowski’s point).

🎪🌟 Empower, don’t inhibit. Let’s take a cue from the circus!

🌈Have you heard the saying that words have power? They can either inspire or restrain. So, why wouldn’t we also use them to empower our children? With our words, we can help children learn to be like circus performers who continuously explore the limits of what’s possible.

🤚 Have you ever found yourself saying:

⭕ “Be careful!”

⭕ “You’re going to get hurt.”

⭕ “I wouldn’t do that if I were you.”

⭕ “Get down from there.”

Often rooted in love and concern, these phrases can inadvertently limit a child’s learning and exploration. Instead, embracing risks is crucial for discovering new possibilities and mastering new skills in both the circus and life.

🔄 Let’s flip the script, circus-style! Encourage your little explorers with words that foster resilience and confidence:

✔️ “Look how high you are! What can you see from up there?”

✔️”You’re zipping along so quickly! You must feel like the wind!” OR “You’re really quick! How do you move so fast?”

✔️”Watch your step—great job being careful where you put your hands and feet!”

By changing our language, we help our children navigate their world confidently. We encourage them to become their own ringmasters, taking bold steps and embracing challenges with a smile.

🌟 At Ithaca Children’s Garden, we support our little explorers to push boundaries safely and joyfully, akin to the daring feats in a circus. Join us in this movement of mindful encouragement and see the joy and growth it brings to your child’s playtime!
