Congratulations to the final year students successfully defended their research proposal (FYP1) on 19th January 2024.
Today, the department has organised the Plastics/Electronic Waste Treatment Proposal Pitching Competition 2024 for students taking the "Introduction to Chemical Process Engineering" course. We have invited 6 engineers from Petronas GTS/PD&T to provide industrial insights to the first-year students, which the students would be able to set some goals for themselves to achieve in the coming 3.5 years in our program.
The program/project aimed to expose fundamental chemical process engineering knowledge (process block flow diagram and unit operation) and sustainability (SDG and circular economy). The students started by doing a survey to understand the criticalness of the problem given, and then they proposed a treatment system for solving the problem.
Worth mentioning that the subject, for the first time, is offered as a university elective to second-year students in electronic system engineering. It is quite challenging to convince them to be interested in the course, as it has a different nature to their major. It is impressive for the industrial and academic evaluators (both in the chemical and electrical fields) that they can explain a process confidently which can treat the consumer waste from the product produced in their field.
